We are going to pick up our new 6 horse head to head trailer this weekend...yay, so excited!

Has anyone seen some good feeders/hay bags for a head to head? Or have any ideas on a DIY?

Thanks

Hawk trailers uses a very roomy and heavy duty feed bag in their straight load trailers.  They should work in anybody's straight load trailer.  You can put a pretty good size flake of hay in them.   They cost about $55 per bag, including the hardware.  Call Craig at Midway Trailer Sales at 800 659-4051.

We use a hay bags like the one shown below. We also carry an extra bale or extra bags already made up. We have the canvas triangular feed bags that came with the trailer but we have never used them.... (Cherokee 6 horse head to head)  So far as feeding grain, they'll get their grain when we get them off the trailer or into the stalls or pasture.

What make trailer did you purchase? Pictures? We like pictures!!

Thank you!

Retento.....do you have problems with those hay bags just swaying or whatever? I have some of those, but didnt think they would work since there will be no wall or anything behind them in our trailer....if they will work, that will be fabulous!! I have this picture in my head of a hay bag swaying back and forth going down the road, batting my  horses in the head :)

I will try to attach some pictures later....

It is an East 46 trailer.....it was custon made for drafts, we have to drive 16 hours to get it....so we are really really hoping we like it when we get there yep, I am crazy!! Wish me luck! I had never heard of this brand....but I did do some research and like what I see. It is a smaller company that for the most part, custom makes horse trailers.

It is 102" wide, so I am hoping that will be so much better for us than most trailers and it is over 8 feet hight inside. 6 horse head to head, with side and back ramps....large area in between the two sets of stalls where the center ramp is,  that has a removable 2 horse slant, or is big enough for some of our carts. It is, I think 36' on the floor, 44' or something with the gooseneck....we shall see, I am anxious to see this monster in person!

This is a picture of a Cherokee 4H2H.

Ours is a 6 horse. There are solid dividers between the horses heads. I have tried attaching them to the "jail doors", but it's too far away for the horses to reach. We just attach the bags with a double brass snap, to a D-Ring that is at the top of the divider. This leaves the bag to the side of the stall and the bag opening is about even with the horses mouth.... They don't have to reach very far to get their hay.

We got an extra 2 feet added to the center area.... We can make 3-10' long by 8' wide box stalls. Those 6 jail doors are really handy!! Also added a foot to the Dressing room making it 5 foot.... Should have made it 10 foot, LOL!  Trailer is 35' on the floor, OAL is 43'. It does get a bit long sometimes.. Good luck and have a safe trip. That's a long haul!!

oooohhh I really like your trailer!! NICE!!

Ours does not have those jail type doors, the tops are open. I can see how the regular hay bags would work well for you. Very nice set up you have!

Thanks for the good luck...
