Certainly I agree that horses should not be transported in double decker horse trailers, but there my agreement with the article ends. That fine race horse trainer was no where around when Ferdinand was sold to owners in Japan. Are we prepared to forbid sale and export of all horses? Hey Thorobred industry.....that means you too! Hey big hunter jumper people, warmblood eventer people....you too!
And if slaughter cannot be conducted in a humane manner, then I hope everyone is prepared to become a veggie eater!
By the way, I still have that AQHA gelding for sale.....he is a big handsome black gelding age 7, broke to trails, camping and highline.....and no body wants him. I cannot ride him because of my back and legs....

So maybe a big BBQ this fall?
Big black QH age 7? We just purchased a QH age 6 and are happy with him but I definately would've taken a look at your horse had I known. Trail and camp is what we do. Your horse seems to be a good fit......

yup, tried AgDirect and several others.....saw many pages of "free" horses; it is so sad. HTW is imo the best site for selling trailers and I had no luck here. It is just the yuck market and people are not spending money on things they don't have to (and I agree with them so....)

I know this is of no help to horses per se, but I have had two friends buy LQ horse trailers directly from ads on HTW, one last Monday, and one yesterday...so some people are still buying......and both these are retired couples , just buying their first full LQ trailers...so y'all hang in there!

Well, I'm not a "warmblood eventer," but I event a half-TB, and I can guarantee you that we are not the people sending our horses to slaughter, so please don't make an inaccurate and gross generalization. My 25 year old retired eventer is standing in my back field, and receives better daily care than most show horses. You won't find ANYONE who takes better care of their horses than eventers do, and if you don't agree then you haven't been to an event before. With regards to the slaughter issue, I think the best solution is to keep slaughter legal, but work to make the entire process much more humane for the animals, from transport to slaughter. Making slaughter illegal, combined with these asshats who indiscriminately breed anything with nuts or ovaries, are what is killing the market. SELECTIVE breeding, folks.

happyrider....please re read my post. I said that if sale and export of horses is prohibited, then international sale of thorobreds and warmbloods as well as all other breeds would be stopped.
The price of an event horse would then drop like a stone. And it would be interesting to see if Olympic qualified horses would be allowed to leave this country to attend the games. And what if someone took a shine to a horse out of the USA on a temp visa and wanted to buy it? And offered big bucks? Would the sale be prohibited?

Perhaps the Feds need to end importation of horses since we are not allowed to export them.Halting international sales of horses might bring the issue back to the light of day.
