I prefer the green charger from KV Vet since it only requires 2 D batteries.  D batteries are pricey and I found the green charger lasted longer.  just my opinion

Even though I just read this, I had to reply. Here are my thoughts-however unpopular they may be. Let me begin by saying that I am NOT saying "let your children and husband go hungry!" I am not. However, I am going to give you some advice from a cowgirl who has no regrets-DO NOT SETTLE!!! Why should you be grateful that you "even get a bumper pull"? If you love and live for your horse and camping and that is all you do, then DO IT WELL!
You need more than a bumper pull to enjoy horse camping. You deserve more, my guess is, but you are made to feel guilty. Don't. Let the stories that make you happy when you are old and entertain your children while you are on your deathbed be GREAT ones! Get yourself a decent living quarters and do not feel guilty for doing what you love. Life is too short to have regrets and it is the precious love of horses and the outdoors that makes our hearts sing. You just go for it, cowgirl, and do not settle for crumbs or for less than you need. No one will appreciate your sacrifices, trust me. Let me say it-no one will appreciate your sacrifice or the fact that you are "just getting by with or making do" with less than you need. Forget that-go for what you really want! You deserve it.

I used the handle ( http://www.valleyvet.com/ct_detail.html?PGGUID=30e07353-7b6a-11d5-a192-00b0d0204ae5 ) with the tape for camping and you can make it anysize you need.   I used the one with the 'spring' on the barn.  Valley vet sells lots of the tape connectors.

I think your assuming a whole lot there.  I camped with no problems with a bumper pull for a lot of years.  Now I have a 4 horse slant with a dressing room and would still love to have a LQ trailer but I probally won't ever get one.  I'd still have the bumper pull if we still only had 2 horses.  It won't make stories to my grandchildren any less interesting.

I did most of my camping like this, no regrets and had a lot of fun. It's not what you camp in, but who you camp with. I may like the comfort of my bigger truck/trailer, but boy do I miss the fuel mileage I got with this set up. They didn't have the portable electric corral or the portable charges to make one with back then. Or perhaps they were just coming out with the concept. They were selling portable corral panel things, but not very convenient. What I did have was a really good horse I could picket, stake out, or tie to the trailer with no worries.

Not doing much camping these days, but this is the current rig. Wasn't camping that day. Am thinking of getting a slide in eventually and maybe doing some camping again.

That's the way we used to camp.  We had our horses trained to tie out.  A 20 ft rope with a bull snap on one end and a tent stake at the other end.  Our horses were staked out all night and we stayed in a dome tent.  We always enjoyed our camping trips.

We'd go out in the hill country (Bandara State Park) and the horses would graze their 20 ft circle get some feed in the morning and off we'd go.
