Well, I've got my groceries bought and the valuables/keepsakes bagged up.....We are fleeing the storm ...which is looking to land right on top of us... We were planning to go up to San Antonio, but it looks like that's in the line of fire also..At this time we're thinking about heading to northeast Texas to hopefully skirt the edge of the storm.. I've got my trailer pulled up to the house to check it out....I guess in the morning we'll be heading out with our kids: equine, canine, and hu-mine!!!

Good luck Leslie! if you do evacuate be sure to get out as early as possible. and have extra gas/diesel with you too.
several years ago we had a mandatory (hurricane) evacuation and luckily I left 1/2 day early w/ the horses, dogs, etc. later on there were people stuck on the road, running out of gas..major highways were like parking lots, it took some folks 10 or 12 hrs. to get 50 miles. it was a real mess and definately not something you want to experience towing a horse trailer.

Just my luck. I live in N.Texas and here I am working this week and stuck in Baytown, TX just north of Galveston and east of Houston. Everyone around here is battening down the hatches. All the gas stations tonight are full of vehicles gassing up. Hopefully, I can get out tomorrow. All the schools in the area are closed tomorrow and Friday. Some businesses are closing also, but not mine. Front desk at the hotel where I'm staying advises everyone to be prepared to leave at a moment's notice. Wife is taking care of everything at home and preparing for wind and rain that's supposed to come through our area. No place like Texas.

Good luck to everyone in the path of Ike. Keep all of your receipts and documentation if you evacuate. If your area gets FEMA relief, be aware that they now have vouchers to help cover the cost of boarding large animals out. I am not sure about small animals as we do not board them. I am not sure if they will give vouchers for facilities that have not gotten prior approval. Even then, the FEMA wheel turns very slowly.....
We have a layup facility below Little Rock, AR that is on the FEMA list. We do accept FEMA vouchers.

You may do better to go northwest. They are calling for Ike to head to the northeast when it hits land. This morning they are also saying it may hit further up the coast. Good for you, bad for me. I am a couple of hundred miles from the coast, but we will be on the dirty side so I am afraid we will get a lot of damage up here too. Good luck and stay safe.

Stay safe. Heard IKE will be a real killer and won't spare anything or anyone. I wish I lived closer we have place that would not mind taking care of your critters.

Good luck and hope your place is still there when you return. I'm going to guess you are already on the road with the critters and crew you need to keep safe. That goes for everyone effected by this large hurricane.

Well, Ike is going to hit Galveston so ridingarocky lucked out. I am not so lucky. They are saying the eye will be coming right over my area. I'll possibly have hurricane force winds, hope not tho. But for sure tropical force winds. At least where I am I don't have to worry about flooding. The last I heard we could get 10 to 14 inches of rain here. At least my pond should fill up! Only good thing out of all of this. Hope everyone in the path makes it thru it ok. I am saying prayers for me and all the others.

Thinking of all of those fleeing Ike God's speed but we in east already feeling the effects with gas being limited to 10 gal. price up to $5 a gal. and some stations already out of gas. Not only does it inpact one place but a whole nation.

I got lucky and ended up not having to leave.. After all that fiasco!!!.. Had to check my trailer.. replaced 2 tires(at 9 o'clock at night, no less!!!).. packed the car, trimmed one and bathed all the dogs.. First was going towards Huntsville to a relative's ranch. Then overnight IKE started changing his path, so we were going northwest SOMEWHERE!..husb (who has to stay..law enforcement..) was freaking out because I was just gonna start driving without knowing where to go... I kept watching the TV and then decided to sit tight.. We had packed our camping equipment just in case we got stranded due to traffic..
I'm very grateful that we don't have to go...
Longearsrule.. Godspeed ..I hope you do OK.. Come to Corpus if you need to.. It looks like we aren't even going to have much rain..

I am in the middle of it now. It is a little scary. This is not my first hurricane, so I know what to expect. Power has been off here since about 6:30, phones are out now too. I am just so thankfull I don't live on the coast, sounds like it got bad down there. Got a portable radio going. Still getting very strong, scary gusts of wind. I don't have to worry about flooding here at least. So far all my out buidings are in one piece and the critters are ok. If I can make it thru the next 3 or 4 hours it will be all over and then the fun starts. They say it may take weeks to get all the power up and going again. Hoping it's not to long here. Hope anyone in it's path makes it thru ok.

It's almost 8pm and it is really raining now. Still have some wind, but not like earlier. I can't tell that I have any bad damage, just some trees. Power is still out and my phone line is dead, thank god for cell phones! Hope the others in it's path are ok too.
