Just saw "Duel in the Sun" and there was a gate that Gregory Peck pulled a rope and the gate lifted up; he rode thru, pulled another rope and the gate let down. So can anyone tell me how to build such a contraption?

Don't know about this particular one, but I have seen a ranch gate that had a "wheel pedal" if you will-you drove onto it and it sank down and lifted the gate up into an "L" shape. You did still have to get out and shut it though!

If you saw the movie why don't you ask the movie people who built it? They will have the details or model numbers you can order from. The worst they can do is provide you with nothing.

I think I'd go to a old type cowboy forum addressing early 20th century Western artifacts or such.Even do a search on gates etc.But I'd be shocked if anybody at the studio could offer any assistance. That would get you a for real deer in the headlight look from a 1946 movie.
