I am in the process of buying a new 3 horse slant load trailer without living quarters and I can't decide between the Platinum or a Sundowner.  Any suggestions would be helpful.

I vote for the Platinum. IMO, the better made trailer.

Platnium....  Because I seen a 4 horse with 12-14' LQ with a Mid tack the weekend of the fourth of July..... And I ain't seen anyones Sundowner that was "BUILT" like this Platnium. This trailer had the white skin up top and polished extruded lower sides. These extruded sides were thicker and heavier than most aluminum trailer floors. I didn't ask what it weighed, but I can Imagine that the 2008, F450 had about all it wanted!!

This is not the trailer, but is simular... http://www.horsetrailerworld.com/home/trailerdetail.asp?ID=165048

You are right "KCW".... "There IS a Difference"

Sundowner is our top pick of trailers. We had 1999 Sundowner Aztec(small/compact lqs) but after few years realized we needed more room and bought Sundowner Siesta. We found used one that was well cared for and never lost money on deal.I can't say I've seen Platnium trailer and my husabnd would tell ya we been trailer shopping more than anything else. But happy hunting to ya and be careful and really check trailer(no matter what ya buy) and make sure everything works and know how to use everything careful and safely.

I don't have either, but when I was shopping around, the not very old Sundowner I looked at had substantial rust under the bathroom area, and was going to need supports added.  So, I sort of started looking more at all aluminum trailers.  For me, the less to worry about the better.  That was just my experience and most people I know with Sundowners like them.  The old cowboys around here won't hear of using one though so go figure.

Well....I am going to say SUNDOWNER !!.......of course...but the only thing I am going to say...so we keep this on an even keel here is......try to be apples to apples---look at the doors, does the trailer sound like a tin can when you shut the doors, the hinges on the drop downs, give the windows a good "twist", the size of the drop downs,Sundowner has some of the biggest drop down windows around....is the slant wall fully insulated if it is a non-living quarters....are the roof vents over the horse's head or are they in the middle of the roof, Sundowner recess' and encases the roof vents for the horse's safety.....look at the size of the saddle horns on the saddle rack, are they little welding together triangles with indoor out door carpet on them or are they nice molded racks.....fit and finish in the horse area should be a big concern....divider latches that allow you to be able to open the divider no matter how much leverege the horse is applying to the divider......compare the safety of the 2 trailers not only for your horse, but also for you the handler.......I could go on but I think that should get you started.......ALSO, remember, feel free to beat and bang on the Sundowner trailer...slam the doors, slam the dividers then do the same to the Platinum...that should give you a good feel for some of the differences......Good luck

(Quote 3yearbumper...) Sundowner has some of the biggest drop down windows around....

Friend of mine has a 6 horse slant (727, I think) with drops on both sides. Trailer almost creates it's own breeze when parked at a show, with them all opened up!!

We owned a Platinum and I can vouch for them as being excellent trailers. There is a difference in size between the Platinum Coach and the Silver models, however.

I used to have a 1999 Sundowner 6 1/2 foot LQ all aluminum 720 trailer and LOVED it...Pulled like a dream. Sold it for more room. 4 Star was next trailer and LOVED it too.!!! Now we have an elite bumper pull and guess what...LOVE it.......( Sold the RV but kept trailer).......... Make sure you know what you are purchasing...is it all aluminum, aluminum over steel, fiberglass or steel roof etc.............Compare steel frame to steel frame and aluminum to aluminum..........Compare your factory warranties and local service departments to see if you can really feel confident when and if you need them......What good is a great deal and great trailer if you can't get it worked on if needed...........Make sure the trailer you are considering EXCEEDS your needs. If you think you might want a shower or toilet, then do so.......You won't regret it..............Best of Luck

Sundowner should put a decal on the rear door:
"It's a Sundowner"

"KCW".... You know that that ain't even a real trailer!!! That's just some computer image they had some kid throw together... LOL!!! I've been all over Hell and half of Georga and haven't seen one LIKE THAT on the road or at a show yet.

Just messin with ya!!

Is that the top secret trailer "everyone" was talking about last year at the Congress?? How many of these have they built? Has Grand Champion in Madison, Va. sold one? When I typed in my zip code, their dealership popped up.

I'm pretty sure I couldn't afford to pay the sales tax on something like that!!!!!
