I have been reading the posts on the Farm Bill with interest. The fact of the matter is that we will pay what it costs to grow grain crops whether we pay for it in higher prices at the grocery store or pay for it in price subsidies to farmers. If we expect subsidies to be retired, then we must also abolish the caps set at the elevator by the department of Agriculture. We can't have it both ways. The farmer who can't sell his crop for what it costs to produce it will soon be out of business and we will all go hungry. If, on the other hand, we could get the government out of farming market forces would prevail, just as it does in every other business.

Unregulated market forces are the reason we are paying 4.59 a gallon for diesel, while consumers in other countries are not. Wish I lived close enough to the Mexican border so that I could buy diesel on the other side of the border.
A no holds barred free market would do us all in. We must learn and remember history in order to avoid repeating it. End of this sermon.

Good point,Marla, but like everything else, the government is going to have their nose in EVERYTHING that will allow.
