I have a 2000 Sunlite 3 horse slant horse gooseneck trailer that is losing the roof. I know that Sundowner has an 8 year structure warranty, (which for me will be up next month) so does anyone know if this falls under that warranty? The 2 dealerships closest to me are closed today so I can't call them but I thought that I would ask here because everyone here seems to have a lot of knowledge about such things.

My trailer has never been in an accident and has always been maintained well. It does live outside 24/7 but don't most trailers. The roof seam is opening up and is lifting up in the nose of the trailer and I can see there is another area where it is lifing off as well furthur down the side. Many rivets appear to be popped off and the seal along the seam is off and the roof material is raised about 1 inch. Altogether about a one foot long area. If it does fall under warranty that then it's a 2 hour drive to fix it under the warranty, if not a 10 min. drive to get it done as soon as possible. I can't even imagine driving down the freeway and the whole thing peels back or flies off. My horses would not be amused! Thanks for any info.

It's a good thing you're in Fresno, CA ... Otherwise you'd have a wet dressing room.  I would call Sundowner on their shell structural warranty.  Ask them to reseal the entire roof seam too.  Not just the obvious areas.

Here's their number  (800) 438-4294 ยท Customer Service

Thanks for the number Hosspuller I will give them a call first thing in the morning. On another note....it rained here yesterday! It has never rained here in July in all my years of living here. Only when I have my roof peeled open like a tin can, then it will rain.

There is normally a very helpful, thoughtful, courteous and considerate Sundowner dealer called 3 yr. something or the other on here. I am amazed he has not jumped in to offer his expertise and get you some help. Brad, where are you when somebody needs you?

Speaking of redoing the seam. How often should that be done? My trailer is 10yrs old and stored outside.

If the seam is caulked, it will probably need checking after the first five years. Most household caulking will only last that long. If is resealed using marine grade polyurethane products, you may encounter life spans doubling the silicone based products.

To properly recaulk, all of the old exposed product should be removed and the area cleaned before any new caulking is installed. Otherwise the new caulking will fall off as the original caulking fails under it.

OK, What could have happened, to pop the rivets off? Sounds like something got into a BIND.  You didn't hook the nose into a..... Low shelter? Tree limbs? Low overhead power wire/cable? etc.?

Is the damage up at the front, at the leading edge of the trailer? Dead center or over on either side? Got any pictures!!??

You took me seriously enough to finally offer some help, which is all I wanted anyway. You should not have to wait until somebody shames you into it. Talk to you later.
