Is anyone having problems with the Chev duramax truck brakes squealing?  We traded our 2005 (which we purchased new) in for a new 2008 Chev lton Duramax.  The 2005 we took back to the dealership more than six times and they never fixed it.  Our brakes only squeal when you begin to apply pressure and do not do this everytime you brake.  The dealership changed pads on all four wheels and told my husband to apply more pressure when braking.  Now our 2008 with 1400 miles brakes are squealing too.  We camp alot and we do not hear other trucks squealing?

If this continues, can we find out if General Motors is having a problems with brakes in their truck?  Does anyone know how to do that or who to contact.

Every GM truck I've ever owned with disc brakes has squealed, sometime they do, sometimes they don't!! I used to put a spot of silicone sealer on the back side of the disc brake pads when I would do a brake job on a truck, that would keep the pad from vibrating and squealing. Have you ever listen closely to your serpentine belt?? Talk about squealing!!

Dont know, between the knobby tires and the Duramax.......if they are squealing it must not be very loud.

As retento mentioned, the squealing is a high pitched vibration caused by the motion of the pad in its retainers. Some times the spring clips can be swapped out, or as a last resort different pads, (non OEM) can be installed. When you press hard, it reduces the free play on the pad and lessens the resulting noise.  Try Retento's usage of silicone, it does work.

Using a lite brake pedal does inhance squeal.Disc brakes on ALL equipment has a tendency to squeal. It by no means has a affect on brake performance.
