We are looking at buying a used 4 star 4 horse with a 14 ft lq with a slide.  I have a 2015 Dodge 3500 dually.  I have been reassured multiple times that this trailer can easily be pulled with this pickup.  I am not worried about the pulling I am concerned about being able to stop.

I have looked through several threads but have not seen anything about how much weight a slide adds to the weight of the trailer.

Take it for a test drive to your local scale and weigh it. Then check specs on truck. I'll bet you are close to the max.

Agree with previous poster... take it to a certified scale and weigh the truck and trailer.... It is a pretty big rig, and if you load it down with four horses.... you may not have the stopping power you need. (We recently went through this after we sold a Sportchassis and went back to using our F-350 4x4 dually with airbags... 2 horses, 17' LQ w/o slide.... too heavy) We went out and bought a Kenworth 330 HP western hauler to pull it... Happy and secure now). I guess it depends on where you are pulling it. In Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, some other flats. it may be OK. I know you don't want to risk your horses. I also know you want all the creature comforts you can cram into a trailer if you are pulling alot....

Take it to a scale, yes.  I also see another problem, older trailer and new Dodge truck tailgate height usually end up with trouble.  A test drive is in order so you can see everything you've got to deal with.  Reading the trailer tag weight is useless, if they won't ride with you to the scales you'll know they are pulling the wool over your eyes.  Lots of dealers say 'oh your truck can handle it' just so they can sell trailers and what happens after you leave with it is your fault!

Unless those people who are reassuring you are lawyers who have signed documents willing to assume all risks and liabilities...then forget them...   Like the others said get it weighed and definitely determine the max pin weight...which hopefully will NOT exceed the RAWR of your truck
