Ok looking for some advice I looked at a Horse trailer a guy has for sale and trying to see if it is a good deal or not. The trailer is a 1994 Aluminum 4 Horse Goose neck Featherlite. It has all the mats, drops on the front, bus windows on the back, escape door, 3-4 ft short wall tack door on the curb side, it has a propane heater and stove plus a small sink, a few cabinents in it just basic. It has sat for the past two years inside before that it was outside, it has not moved in those two years ethier, the awning is broke, the vent in the tack room leaks, it needs a bath of course sitting in a dirt floor barn, it still has hay and shavings in the back. The tires look good but do not match and one rim is the spare steel wheel the rest are aluminum american racing wheels. Over all it looks like with a little work it could be made safe. The guy wants 12,000 for the trailer. Good deal or not a good deal.

I would pull the mats and check the floor carefully for pitting and/or holes. I think 12K sounds high. If I were to spend that much I would put it towards a nicer/safer trailer.

I guess not really safe but fully functional for it has sat so long I think I would need the axles and bearings lubed. Also he said he tried fixing the roof vent but gave up it just plain leaks he said.
My wife wants a trailer really bad I sold her steel 2 horse 4 years ago guess I got offered a good price, but do to things going on she has been renting and borrow when she wants to use trailer. Trying to find out if this would be a good deal he says his price is firm.

If the trailer has easy lube hubs lubing the bearings and axles would take about 10 minutes as far as the vent leaking that really is most likely a non-issue you can purchase a new roof vent for next to nothing if it needs that and not just a little silicone.

Just tell the guy you really like his trailer, but you want to keep looking because you want to try to find something around $xxxxxx(what ever you want to offer) and see if he's willing to drop any when he sees you leaving.

Go ahead and deduct $500.00 for a "matching" set of tires. Check the date branded into the sidewall. What does the floor look like, pitted? deep pits? Holes?..... Walk away and keep looking, you'll know the right trailer when you see it!! That price he's asking is for a trailer in pretty much "show room condition" for a 14 year old, Featherlite of that "vintage".
