Not wench!  Wrench!

So, I am updating (read replacing because I can't find) a wrench to keep in the trailer.  Do I want a star wrench or a Gorilla wrench, or something else?

Are you talking about a lug nut wrench? Personally, I prefer a 4-way wrench that has a size to fit both the pickup and trailer. Some people prefer a breaker bar with a deep-well socket. I'm not sure I know what a star wrench or gorilla wrench is.

The wrench I am call a star wrench looks like a lower case "t."  Maybe no one else calls it a star wrench.  The gorilla wrench is a single bar with the option to use multiple sockets.

I use a star and a breaker bar. If you get a star or 4 way make it a truck one , I had one and it was for cars  I thought that is would work BUT when I needed it  the star bent  just trying to get the nuts on the trailer loose had to call for help

Most trailer and truck lug nuts are torqued to at least 100 ft/lbs. Many automotive types of breaker bars are not strong enough to handle that amount. Make sure any ratchets or breaker bars with which you also use a pipe "cheater", are strong enough for the job. I've seen many of the Asian tools in a half inch drive set, fail at lower torques than 100 ft/lbs. That's why the term "knuckle buster" was coined.

Also, when you have the lug nuts removed, it's a good idea to apply a small amount of grease or oil to each of the wheel studs before you replace the nuts. This will ensure a more accurate torque, and help prevent the rusting of the lug nuts in place.

The nuts on some SIMS are different sizes than your lug nuts. This will require two different sized sockets or a star type of wrench.

The wench is strictly for pleasure, often incorporated while waiting for USRider to show up.

lever, gard!

Thanks to all for your help.

Survived the auto store, even though an employee and I had an interesting conversation regarding my selected 4 star wrench.  He said, "You don't want that; it's for a big truck." I replied, "For a semi?"  He said, "No, a big truck."  I then said, "Like my F350 in the parking lot?"  Sigh.
