Has anyone installed Allante wallcovering over their existing walls in their LQ's. Right now, we have that hard vinyl coverd wall covering and was wanting to install the allante on top of it.

HW- it's the softtouch(padded vinyl) fabric. (thought you did LQ conversions? HA!) I don't know how well it would stick the the papercovering you have on your walls? Probably OK, but I'd check with the glue manuf. first.

I do, I call it soft touch walls, Allante was a Cadillac that didn't make it. Anywho, I use viynl top glue when I install it, it will stick anything to anything.

Thanks HW - What brand of soft touch did you use?
BTW - you would be surprise of the number of people who don't know what a real Allante was - I actually had one of the first ones that was ever built - Lorimar productions borrowed the car for Larry Hagman (JR) to drive in an episode of 'Dallas'

No, but we are going to put a weekend package in a little 3H my mom bought last year and we were considering using it for the walls or ceiling.
Either want to do the walls solid in planks (http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=13787-46086-259038&lpage=none) and then use that wainscot stuff for the ceiling or use the paneling for the lower 1/2 of the walls, use the wainscot for the upper half, then use the planks also for the ceiling, but put the planks in diagonally to 'separate' their appearance from the walls.

Does that link have the foam backing?? My LQ needs an update- no more blue!! Does anyone has a suggestion when I do the wall covering- brand of glue and where exactly to buy the vinyl???

Hey Mandi - I was looking at that wallcovering too at Lowes. The guy in the wallcovering dept. said that it wouldn't do well in a damp environment like a horse trailer (start disintegrating??!!). Have you heard anything about it? I like the vinyl from Jazz, and even have a tax id #, but I wonder how well it would hold up over time. Do you know how expensive it is and what's required for installation?

I don't know anything about the stuff Jazz has
I also haven't researched the stuff I posted above any further. It was just something I found and had considered. I'm still a little ways from reaching that point on my project. LOL!

I use 3M vinyl top glue, I spray it out of a cheap paint gun, works good. Not real hard to install, I do it by myself and I have put up a run 26 ft long on the ceiling of a 14' shortwall. As long as you get it started straight it will run straight. I am going to be ordering a roll of the Tucson Camel color by the end of the week for a Totorhome I'm doing. I've done wallpaper and it looked good, I use the 1/2" very smooth plywood from Home Depot, fill the seams with spackling putty and wallpaper just like a house. I was in one I did about 5 years ago, just yesterday it still looks like new.

Do you cut the vinyl even with the edge of the plywood or tuck it around the back? If you tuck it does it make an uneven thickness that's hard to make the glue stick? Is glue enough to hold the panel up or do you also tack it with something else? It's nice to talk to someone that's actually worked with it because if it's not too hard to use it sounds like it would look really nice!

I screw the walls to the trailer first, use spackling at the joints, then put the vinyl on the walls, no seams.
