how high can the actual awning rail go on top of an awning bar? i was told that if the awning was to high up on the roof it would blow off going down the road. true or false?

I, having installed alot of awnings still have no idea what you are calling an "awning bar" please take a picture of this setup and post it so we can try to answer your question.

i will try to get a picture today. it is an aluminum "L" shaped bar that runs the length of the roof of the trailer, it allows an awning to be installed on the bar instaed of the actual roof therefore you are not screwing the awning rail into the roof, it is mounted on this bar.

After seeing the photos, that seems like alot of trouble to go through just to install an awming. I don't see any reason that it can't be moved to the top of that "bar", it won't catch anymore wind up there than it will where it is now. Your only going to gain about an inch because of the bracket that the arms are attached to, Is this trailer short or something? I can't understand why this was done to begin with.

this is a 7' tall trailer. the reason for the bar is to screw the awning rail into it and not the actual roof of the trailer like most awnings are attached to.

I too, don't understand the logic in wanting to raise the awning rail. You sure don't have much room to play with due to the awning arm brackets are nearly at the top of your "awning bar" the way it is. Does the reason have anything to do with the continuing leaking problem? I noticed in the pic. that whoever installed that awning rail didn't put any butyl (sp.) behind it. HWBar knows what I'm talking about, they may call it something diff. where you are, but we always called it butyl and it's kinda like a strip of putty that you'd put under the awning rail, trim rail, or anything else that will need a watertight seal and at the same time sealing up the screw holes as it's screwed on. They need to take it (awning rail) off and put a strip of butyl behind it. Talk to y'all later...

the reason for raising it was to allow the escape door cam latch thingie to clear the awning when the awning is et up, the way it is now the cam latch hits the awning if there is any slope to it at all, which brings me to another question, how much can i lower the cam latch down and still have metal to screw into? yes you are 100% right about there not being a waterproof bead of something under the awning rail. the awning people just left here and this is the second time they have worked on this awning because like you said, it leaks. they ran a silicone bead over the top and now they are going to run one under the bottom of the rail. if this don't work they will be taking the da** thing off and doing it the right way! i paid 1,200.00 for this new awning and it has been a headache ever since day one! i asked for my money back but they said it was a special order and couldn't do that. i signed nothing and it's not on my reciept, so i may turn into the BI%&h from HE** if they don't get it fixed THIS TIME!! thanks again to all.

PS and I hope these aren't the same folks that are supposed to have just learned how to install that WERM flooring that you 're set up to have installed.

these are not the same werm people, this a rv place that put an awning on my other trailer about 5 yrs ago. they came out and saw the leak and was suppose to come back out this week but it has been cold so i'll give them the benifit of doubt but this week it is suppose to be in the high 60 no rain. they will have until weds to get this done of not the "katie bar the door" cause i'm going to kick some a**!!! can you tell i'm pi**ed off at all? i called around at some trailer and rv places and the going price for the 18' awning and installing was between 1,000 and 1,200 i just picked this place because they did the other one for me and they were 10 minutes from the house. i can only imagine how i would feel if i had these problems and they were 2 hours away from me.

Camping World has put several on for me at half that price. Don't know where you are in TN but I use the one in Nashville. I would just put a cord on the door so you won't open it too far when the awning is out. I don't know why they mounted it this way.

As I looked at the picture, I don't see how the awning itself could leak into the trailer. The awning is not actually attached to the roof. Who welded that brace that the awning is attached to? It is possible that the leak is around the welds. That is where you may have to caulk.

he awning is not leaking nside the trailer. the bar was welded on at the factory. the water is leaking under the rail and running down the outside of the trailer and landing right in front of the door on the running boards.
