We camped at Cimarron near Quesa NM last summer and stayed about a week. (GOOD NEWS) The campground has a host and is clean and organized. Pens are large pipe pens but spaced far apart beteen horses. Mostly open riding and not really any marked trails but cannot complain, saw elk, deer, bear, and beautiful scenery.
(BAD NEWS) The water well in campgrond failed about a year ago so nearest drinking water is about 40 miles round trip. We carry about 150 gallons and was not a problem but be prepared unless they have fixed it. Horse water is from a stream about 1 mile from campgrond. We used 5 gallon buckets lined with garbage bags to prevent spillage on bumpy road back to campground. Also no elec. in camground so need generator or propane refig. for any extended stay.
We enjoyed and will be back but just be prepared as you are far from any conviences or supplies.

Thanks for the info. Actually, I did not realize the trails/area were open riding. Was it just like meadow/field riding?

There were some trails here and there but the terrain is great for just open riding.  Large areas with no trees, just open meadows with elk grazing in the distance.  Took us about 2 hours to cross one of these areas.  There are old roads and cow trails that you can follow. One led to an old log hunting lodge which is a good place to lunch, about 3 hours from campground.
