we just had an 18' awning installed on our new silver star trailer today and now i have a small problem with the escape door, the top latch just misses the awning by about 1/2" as long as the awning is all the way up. if you put the awning at a slant you cannot open the escape door. for some reason the top latch is all the way at the top of the trailer, my question is can the latch be moved down and the length of the pole that closes and latches be cut shorter? does any of this make sense? i'm so stressed, we are planning a 4 day trip and now this! i'm afraid there won't be any "stud" wall to support moving the latch down 3 inches. how would i find out if there is a beam below the current one?

a roller won't work because the door latch is taller than the top of the door. as long as the awning doesn't have ANY fall to it the latch won't hit it but there needs to be slope on the awning. has anyone ever cut a door latch pole down?

I think if I had been them,I would have addressed that problem to you before I did that installation.Looks like they could have seen that was going to be a problem.

This is a common situation with awnings on escape door sides. For this reason, some trailer cos won't put a LQ door on this side- awning interference. You just have to be careful. As with most things horsey- nothing is idiotproof. If you aren't sure others can be careful with your door/awning combo, throw a lock on the door when the awning is up. I've had this on my trailer for years with no problem- as long as you watch what you are doing. I sure can't see blaming the awning installer. You tyold him you wanted an awning there, and he did just that.

I have a (built 12-00)Silver Star Supreme trailer with a dressing room door, mid tack door and the cam latch excape door, all on the same side as my A&E 21' awning. No problems with any of them, I do have a roller on the DR door because of the sharp corner and a center support bracket to help support the center of the awning when it's rolled up. Sounds like your awning was mounted on the side of the trailer rather than on or near the top of the roof. The top of my awning rolled up is higher than the roof of the trailer, this makes for plenty of room for the doors to swing open when the awning is deployed. If mine was mounted any lower it would be covering the side marker lights when rolled up. I would take it back to whom ever installed the awning. How tall is your trailer?
