I am getting ready for a big trip... I was loading stuff today and broke one of the hinges on my 98 Sundowner LQ door. The base side has the rivet looking type heads and the door side of the hinge has regular phillip head screws. It broke clear through the middle between the base side and the door side. It's the one on the bottom. I guess it's no biggie, but I'd like to fix it before I leave Sunday. I will be going right by the Sundowner dealer in Morrilton, but on Sunday. I am calling them tomorrow to see if they can leave the part outside or something.Anyone broke one of these? Can you take the hinge apart and screw on a new door side.I will post the same on HTW, but they don't get that much traffic. So I am asking here also. Thanks!

Let me guess... The lower hinge broke.  You were trying to get the door to latch with the rubber do-hickey?  I've done the same (well ... the better half did the actual deed)  I replaced the whole hinge.  Drill out the rivets...  Buy the rivets from the Sundowner dealer.  They're hard to get elsewhere.  They are stainless steel countersunk head blind rivets.  You can use a good quality Pop-rivet gun to pull them.   A cheap gun may break trying to pull the rivets.  (they're strong)

Don't try to use any other fastener for these reasons:  The frame metal is thin so screws will pull out, Alum rivets are too soft and will pull out, steel rivets will rust and they all look different than the OEM rivet.

Thanks for the replies! Yes, I was trying to latch the door back and it's cold outside so I pushed it really hard... go figure! Darn, I was wishing for a quick fix... no dice.

I had two different latches break off around the rivets before and this is what worked for me. We shut the door, locked it made sure the latch pieces lined up like they were still together then got out the Gorilla Glue. We put a little in a syringe and shot it down the crack until it filled it. After it dries it swells up some and we just scaped the excess off with a putty knife. Both times the glue held until we could get new latches ordered in and put on. Just don't use the door until you are sure the glue is cured. Gorilla Glue is the next best thing to duct tape!

LOL 3 yr. But get you facts straight......It happened at the 2007 National Chuckwagon Races in Clinton, AR. The "Who's Your Daddy" race team and cheering section needed a place to cool off sooooooo they went to the feed store and bought a "pool". Which just happened to be a 700 gallon round metal watering trough sitting over the double axles of a 20ft flatbed! But, the flatbed WAS being pulled by a pickup. The flatbed had many coolers and lawn chairs strategically placed for enjoyment of the beer and multiple flavors of moonshine. We tried to get in it ever afternoon during the heat of the day. Buddy was kind enough to change the water daily. Or, so he said...........

Yes,that's an Arkie hot tub/swimmin pool all right.IF we don't have it,we'll gather up enough stuff to make it! My stock trailer sure has made a good UHaul for me too.

But Rodeodreamin's location says "not where I should be."Just don't know how lucky they are,do they?

Can anyone imagine Don Smith taking this kind of attitude if someone had a problem with one of the brands of trailers he carries? He would be bustin his @$$ to help the guy out. Just shows the difference in Huevos.
