I have this new horse, 5 years old. The best guy you could ask for!! Manners, charm, personality to boot!! Will load on Q EXCEPT!! If there is manure in the trailer.

I always clean my trailer out when I get home, but if we go somewhere to do a day ride when it is time to come home he won't load for ANYTHING until we get ALL the manure out of the trailer!!

Isn't that crazy!!

You know we all have our little "Pet Peeves" Ha, Ha. If that is the only thing that he does at 5 years old I most certainly would be very grateful. Good luck and take a pick where every you go. Oh how is he if you forget to clean out his stall for one day. Will he go in or does he refuse? Good luck

Horses, like people, all have their little quirks.  On a recent camping trip, my hubby's horse refused to poop in his stall.  We had to take him out and walk him like a dog!!  It became the joke of the campground.  Then again, it made for easy cleaning when we left.

RIDE ON!

I cracked up when I read these.  Several times at a show my daughters horse would act all funny when she got ready for the bareback classes.  Heck I thought he was going to fall down once.  I took him back to the trailer thinking something was wrong with him, loaded him to go home and low and behold he pee'd.  Seem completely fine after that.  But..won't be outside.  Has to do it in the privacy of his own trailer with his little woody pellets

I've known many geldings that won't pee unless they are on shavings.

I had a mare once that would only poop in one corner of her stall in a small manure bucket, pee'd there too.  Talk about easy stall cleaning!

WISH I could train my guys to do that!!!

My silly ex-racehorse (who is temporarily living in my backyard right now) only likes to pee in certain places.  I have about 5 large brown spots in my yard.  I've watched him grazing and then stop and walk all the way over to a "spot" and pee then go back to where he was grazing.

Our show gelding is similar.  He's a private pee'er.  Doesn't like an audience.  You can almost stop him mid-stream if you come around the trailer too fast and surprise him.  Gotta quick say excuse me and divert yer eyes.

My daughters gelding does that.  He has one spot to pee and poo and that's it.  I put the wheel barrow over there to see if he would go directly in that (and save me some work) and he knocked it out of his way.  The two that are penned with him are starting to pick up this habbit and it is making their area so much quicker to clean.

My horses have 18 acres to run on but the mare waits to pee until she comes up to be fed mornings and evenings. Suppose it's too late to teach an old horse new tricks?

The gelding I sold when I left Tx. had 10 acres but would come up to the yard and poop over the fence.  Made the dogs happy.

That's one way to dispose of manure.... No, I guess that's just recycling....

That just made smelly dog breath and more dog poo to clean up.

Amos,
I am very grateful for this horse. I Love him to pieces, and hey, I really don't want to walk through the poop either. As for his stall, I can't recall putting him in without cleaning it but I am sure he wouldn't have a problem being that he poops in one spot everytime, It looks like a skyscraper. He always backs up in the corner and builds me a castle!!

My mare does the same thing everytime I feed she runs to the barn and pees, but I was grateful that she does that because at one point I noticed blood in her urine and took her to the vet , come to find out she had a bladder infection.

I had a gelding who would walk into his stall in the evening for feeding, take a bite of grain, circle the stall once then stretch out to pee.  I kept a bucket by the stall door and could catch it every time.  Saved a bit on cleaning up shavings.

My current QH gelding stops off at the manure pit on his way to the barn and leaves a deposit before entering his stall each evening.  One of the neighborhood kids asked me how I litter trained my horse.  He is also the type that builds a castle in the corner when confined.

Got to love a neat horse!

My geldings also enjoy peeing on straw or sawdust rather than the hard ground. Must be the splash factor. Now they are outside all day/night and must find a suitable place to do their business which is just about anywhere they can. I like a tidy horse.

Grey ears in my avatar lets me know when he has to pee during a trail ride by walking off the beaten path into the higher grass/prairie. He won't pee on the actual trail. Perhaps less splash factor? Or he's just really polite. hehehee

One of my mares drives me nuts by only peeing in the run in. I clean it and put in fresh shavings and she will walk from the farthest reaches of the pasture to come pee in it and go back out. I have two draft crosses and they don't do the damage in one week that she will do in a day. It doesn't help that she seems to produce the flood of Noah completely out of proportion to her size. See how ticked off I am...ranting to strangers on the net? Maybe I need counseling...

Well, yesterday morning Annie one of the 2 yo fillies came out of her stall to discover a cat in her path;  she picked the cat up by the tail......the cat screamed and she let it go......she watched the cat retreat with a look on her face that said "what's wrong with you cat, I was just playing"

I used to have an awesome barn cat, she'd jump down into the hay bunk, crawl up my show geldings hood and sleep on his back.  In the summer she'd sit on his dutch door and swat bugs off his eyes while he slept.  I never had mice or birds in the barn thanks to the cat!

I have one like Yvette's horse.  He never pees on the trail and he'll start moving off the trail looking for the perfect spot.  I've had people comment that he's sure polite.  We have one trail that the grass it tall and it a sure thing he'll have to take a pee in that area every time.  Sometimes I think it's so he can sneak a nibble of grass.
