Good morning.
I have a 3H slant all aluminum Sooner bumper pull trailer in excellent condition that i'm trying to trade for a 4H all aluminum Cherokee bumper pull trailer, which looks to be in excellent condition also.
Both have hay racks/ladders. rubber lined/mats...Front/rear tack, and drops of the headside, and graphics.
Mine has mangers, and slats w/ plexi on the butts., my front tack is bigger.
His has sliders on the butt, No mangers.
mine is 3 years newer than his.
I'm willing to trade straight across....how insane am I?

Very !!! ... Get a Goose-neck instead of a BP for that size trailer.

well that's not the info i needed but that's for your reply.
Got 2 paid for trucks and 2 paid for capri campers and 2 paid for trailers...not going back into debt for a while, just to have what i allready have in my camper.

If you are happy and the other party is happy go for it. BUT remember when the day comes that you want to trade trailers again you have a much older trailer and the worth of that trailer is going to be much less. WHen we trade trailers we are always trading up for a newer year model.

If the trailer is in excellent condition and it is what you want go for it. I can't blame you for not wanting any debt. I am trying to get debt free myself and will be very happy when my trailer is paid for. If you are planing on reselling it asap then maybe not but if you are planning on keeping it for a long time the convenience and lack of payment are worth it if you need a bigger trailer. JMO

If the 4h is what you need then go for it. I traded an 8 year old 5th wheel for my first horse trailer, a practically-new 3h gooseneck, but with no LQ. Neither the seller of the horse trailer nor myself were able to sell our respective trailers for what we thought they were worth, and we both wanted what the other had, so we traded straight across. I believe we both thought we got the better end of the deal. I don't know what the sales tax situation is in your state, but because we traded straight across with no cash changing hands, neither of us had to pay sales tax when we went to title and licence the respective trailers. Another big plus point.

I have a few thoughts on mangers. First off I will say that I don't feed during transport, even long transport. To me the manger is a nuissance and not only cuts down space inside the trailer but keeps the horse from being able to clear its airways. If you put hay in them and leave the windows dropped down, the feed will at times blow around in the horses face (even if you have screens on the windows!), that can lead to all types of eye problems. The one plus I can see with a manger is that it does offer storage space below, but again given what I consider to be cons of the manger, I would never cry over that lost space. I think if you organize well in the front/rear tack areas you should be fine. Before you go ahead and trade have the Cherokee checked out by a dealer and make sure it is in good shape (axles, brakes, welds). If all looks well and you feel you really want a 4H bumper pull, then by all means go for it!
