Hi all,

I just bought a used Cherokee 3H slant with 8' LQ.  Previous owner smashed the gray water tank to bits topping a steep hill on a gravel road and I just got a quote to replace it.  $500 for the tank itself and another $500+ for labor.  I'm thinking it can't possibly be so complicated that we can't DIY if we're fairly handy and had the right tools.  Anyone had to do this before, or familiar with the process?  Can you share some tips?

Thanks in advance.

Felix

Depends on the size of the tank, most horse trailers do not take a standard size holding tank. Some holding tanks are as low as $125 some as high as what you were quoted. Assuming the dealer is marking up the tank yours is probley $200-$300 range. As far as DIY if your handy with tools it can be done the hardest thing will be installing the fittings in the right location on the new tank. If the trailer has a sink in the main part of the trailer it drains to it as does a shower and the other sink in the bath. There will also be a vent pipe that is going to the ceiling and through the roof. All the plumbing will be done with abs plastic most likely and can be obtained at any hardware store. The fittings that go into the tank will be a rubber gromet that will accept the ABS fittings probley 1.25".
