Does anyone here haul a 8' wide trailer that has a gooseneck that is not tapered with a shortbed truck? I know it is not an ideal setup, but can it be done without too much problem? Thanks, Jdman

I would like to hear everyones thoughts on this as well. I'm currently pulling a Featherlite 6H with a tapered nose without any trouble and am looking at getting an 05 Elite 4HLQ without. I've always had duallys, but 2 years ago I decided to trade and got a 2500 QuadCab Dodge with short bed. Trading the truck for a new dually isn't within my budget with a new trailer for a few more years so it would have to do. I know I wouldn't be able to jack-knife and squeeze myself in some places, but with caution can you make the normal turns? Thanks

Does your truck have an extended or crew cab? If it doesn't, I'd be leary of hauling your trailer. A longer wheel base brings more stability. Just my 2 cents.....

My truck is a crew cab. I just bought it a week ago, paid nearly $600 to have the hitch installed, and the thought never crossed my mind about the short bed. Now I have found a trailer that is exactly what I want, at a great price. Only question is, can I pull it without having to worry about knocking my back glass out or bending the cab up. Jdman

There is an adapter made for short bed trucks that will enable you to do so. Do a search for this and you will find a good deal of info. I think it can be done...

Gone, hitting the window is exactly what I'm worried about. I don't want to get going down the road and go to make a turn and take out the back glass or possibly even the cab. I will definetly be looking into the hitch extender. I'd be interested to see if anyone has done this successfully without. Basic math tells me that i got about 36", probably less, haven't measured, from the ball to the cab, and from the middle of the hitch to the outside would be 48". From that, and without doing geometry to figure out the exacts, I would say at the most I could make about a 60 degree angle instead of a full 90 degree which would be required for jackknifing. I need to find one close to home and just go hook up to it at different angles, and then be cautious.

I have a F250 ext cab short bed. Pulling a 3h exiss gn. I didn't feel comfortable with the trailer so close to the cab. I purchaed the SB1 Extender hitch and I can put the trailer anywhere. It moves the trailer back about nine inches. Just remove the old coupler from your trailer and replace ,line it up, tighten it up with torque wrench. I love mine...

I have an 06' GMC shortbed CC, I pull 8' wides with no problem, I also pull 8' wide fifth wheel with it(no Taper) I have the extend a ball that sets it back about 5"-6". If you make a habit of Jach Knifing or 90 degreeing your trailer you might want to get a longbed and a couple of spare tires and a few sets of bearings. I just don't put myself in those positions, and I'm hooked to a trailer every few days.

I drive an 04 Dodge quad cab with a shortbed. My trailer is 8' wide might taper to 7'6" and with the 9" extender I can still hit my rear window. You just have to keep on eye on those sharp turns.

I'm pulling an 8' wide Exiss with a F250 Quad Cab, short bed. I had trouble the first time I pulled then I found a ball extension from B&W Hitch. It moves the ball back about 4" which took care of the problem. The ball extension is cheaper than the coupler extension, it will cost about $125. Hope this helps.
