These seem to be quite similar in construction - steel frame, aluminum skin, fiberglass roof.
I'm shopping for a 2h GN with DR.
Has anyone done a comparison?

Not fond of either but in a rush I would have to go with the Hawk. The last new Kiefer I saw had more sharp edges and corners then a razor blade factory.

I just bought a Kiefer built Grand Prix and so far, so good. I chose it because I could get a better price on it. They don't seem to make any trailer as "sound" as they used to years ago, but so far, I am pleased.

I'd be interested to know what you don't like about Hawk and what trailers you do prefer.

Don't like steel frame, aluminum skin, fiberglass roof trailers. No particular reason, just don't care for them. I have at the present time, a Silver Star. Bought it because of the all aluminum construction, it was on the lot, super good price, light weight, insulated roof and other things that cost alot extra on the high end trailers. If I had to buy new tomorrow I don't know what I would buy, Pegasus, Eby, Elite, Dream Coach, 4-Star, Sundowner, etc. But now that I have posted this I would probably end up with a Hawk or a ...........Kiefer!!!

I had a bumper pull Grand Prix and never had any issues with it.Look at the trailers and compare what you like and don't like and then decide which is a value for you. I also was really happy with resale on my 2H BP Kieffer. I kept it very clean but it sat outside. My horses were always cool with the fiberglass roof and never baulked at going in to the trailer. I always thought that said something.Best wishes,

I have never owned either. That said their are two Hawks at our barn and they are both the same type: Two horse straight loads with ramps they are nice looking but both do the same thing. Where the ramps are mounted and where the hinges are mounted they run rust out. One trailer has rust blisters on a few of the welds. But for the most part nice looking trailers. Been told they pull a little heavy. I like the Merhow Steel frame aluminum skin trailer- way more aluminum and a very good looking trailer on top of it. My friend pulls hers with a V-6 in an Volvo SUV.

Looked closely at both- between those two the Hawk would have been my choice- Keiffer had too many fit/finish issues on the used ones I saw. Hawk also offers the Rumber floor. Merhow makes an awesome trailer with similar specs. as the Hawk.

I recommend you stay away fro the Pegasus, they build expensive, heavy pieces of trash. for all the metal used in it's construction you would think they're strong but they actually bend under their own weight...I've seen 2 year old trailers that have flexed so much that the stall dividers have broken and the underfloor ramps are wedged in place. Latest problems they are trying to deal with is keeping the floor rubber in place for all the same reasons. Blowing tires is another thing since they're overweight beyond the tire limits when empty...you'll see them along side the road with trainers and drivers trying to keep the horses alive while road service works on the trailer...the company knows the tire issue is huge but their layer recently told them not to include a jack to replace tires..shows some sort og knowlege or something...wow

I have a 2000 Kiefer 2H BP slant that I purchased new and have never had any problems with it in seven years except the window-holdy-things had to be replaced and some knobs on the sliding windows. Otherwise it has been a very good trailer. It still looks new. I like the fiberglass roof stays cooler inside. Easy to pull. It is a step up and I have two dividers.
