Hello,Need trip help. I will be traveling from St. Paul, MN to the Tehachapi/Bakersfield, CA area. I have a question on which route would be the best.... in terms of LESS mountains and steep roadways.I will be driving my 93' Damon Challenger with a Chevy 454 engine, my RV is 26' long. I am hauling a 2 horse bumper pull trailer with two ponies ...total pony weight is 1,100 lbs. My two options are:St. Paul/Mpls, MN south to Oklahoma City, OK on Hwy 35. Head west on Hwy 40 through Amarillo, Albuquerque, Flagstaff, Needles. At Barstow, head northwest on 32/58 towards Tehachapi/Bakersfield area. Total miles 2,168ORSt. Paul/Mpls, MN south on Hwy 35 towards Des Moines, IA. Take Hwy 80 west through Omaha, Lincoln and at Julesburg get onto Hwy 76, to Denver. In Denver get onto Hwy 70 through Vali, Grand Junction, at Cove Fort head south on Hwy 15. Towards Las Vegas, stay on Hwy 15 to Barstow. At Barstow, head northwest on 32/58 towards Tehachapi/Bakersfield area. Total miles 1,973.If I do this trip...it will be the 2nd week of September. What are the normal day temps on these routes? IDEAS?? THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The temperature through the desert will be very hot!! We live about 35 miles south of Tehachepi, and can tell you that the Mtns there are very nice. The worst temps will probably be from Az...to Barstow, as the lower Colorado/Mojave will still be smokin hot. I love the desert, but I try to drive the desert in the evenings/ nights.
