We have had posts here recently about favorite camps in the Shawnee recently, how about your favorite in the Black Hills.  We've stayed at Custer and TC camp and several years ago at Nemo.  Liked the riding at Nemo best, hard to get reservations at Custer but riding good.  TC was nice to camp at but sometimes hard to find your way around when riding.  Looking at staying at one of the private places next year down by custer and was wondering what some of your experiences have been.

We've been to the hills 4 times. Stayed at Elkhaven, TC, one north of Nemo and this past year Broken Arrow. We enjoyed all of those places but Broken Arrow has by far the nicest campground, horse facilities and riding. The place is immaculate. You won't find nicer, cleaner shower and bathrooms. They have miles and miles of trails and have marked them and made maps. You can ride into Custer park from there. We stayed and rode 10 days and rode a different trail every day. We plan to go back next year. They are going to have even more trails by then.

I agree with pooperscooper we also stayed at Broken Arrow and plan to go back next year. We have also stayed at French Creek but it did not have electricity or water. The camp was beautiful but buffalo wondered through which I think is kinda scary.

We traveled all the way from TN to Broken Arrow this summer and loved it so much we are going back next summer and taking a group of friends. We liked the covered stalls, immaculate bath house, and full hook-ups. Riding out of camp was great, but you can also lease a 4 horse trailer from the owners (who by the way are great hosts,) and ride some of the other trails. We rode into Custer State Park from camp, but also trailered into French Creek one time. Can't wait for next summer.

Some other trails you should ride if you want to trailer out is the Deerfield trail out of Silver City. It crosses back and forth across this beautiful creek. It's down in the bottom of a huge canyon and rock walls on both sides. Another great trail is the Little Spearfish trail in Spearfish Canyon. There's so many trails up there.

Trailboss II,

They are located just outside of Custer. They have everything from fullhookups, primitive and even a bunkhouse with motel like rooms. they have covered pens and 2 turnout pens. Only 5 minutes from town and right off the blacktop so it's super easy to get to. Check out their website. http://www.brokenarrowhorsecamp.com/
