If I mount a battery in a proper battery box on my trailer under the nose and connect a female end of my plug-in to the battery (inside the battery box) when I unhook the trailer from the truck....couldn't I just hook my plug into it to run my inside 12v lights? I would only hook the wires for the ground and the lights to the female end. I know it would need recharged as needed...but wouldn't this work and be simple OR am I overlooking something?

Yes it would work as you described. You could also just make up a similar adapter and use your trolling motor battery. or Reverse and use your trailer battery for your trolling motor.

It really depends on your trailer, if you have to have your running lights on for the interior lights on your trailer to work, and if you hook up your auxillary battery to this circuit, the running lights would also be on. If you could use your interior lights when the runnings lights are off, then your auxillary battery would run only the interior lights. Why don't you just hard wire the auxillary battery to your interior lights.

I have this very thing in order to turn on my loading lights or trailer horse compartment lights when I am unhooked from the truck. The living quarter lights are hardwired to the onboard batteries.

In the same spirit... Depends on your target catch... Jewelry works on the females, while beer and a sports channel hook-up attracts the males.
Seriously... a trolling motor battery is a good selection. It is designed to be deeply discharged. A deep discharge will destroy an automotive battery rather quickly. Consider how often your car battery has to be replaced after a few instances of leaving the lights on.
