We have a 28.5 ft Tiara Cabin cruiser that is self contained. It has a AC that sits on top of the the vent hatch. It is easily removable to store. I never knew there was such a creature until we got the boat last year. After seeing it, I think it would work as well on any standard sized roof hatch where you had a need for a portable. Is there a reason why you don't just put a conventional roof top unit on your camper?

From the above link... The marine unit is twice the price for about 1/2 the cooling capacity of a conventional roof top RV unit.

The cheapest way to go is to purchase a small residential window unit (used) and cut a hole in your camper (rear wall). I've seen a few horse trailers with small window units mounted under the gooseneck. That way they wont be sticking out in the wind on the sides where you might catch them on something (treelimbs or your head)..Otherwise, a standard RV roofmount would be your other option and most of these are in the 500.00 price range. I believe most of the marine units are water cooled and that wont be an option unless you are driving under water (ha). Of course for any AC unit a generator or 110vac hookups would be needed. There are a few "ac" units on the market that rely on a cooler full of ice, but these are not very practical, since you need a source of ice.

Regards.
