I'm posting this in case anyone that reads the boards is headed to French Creek at Custer State Park (SD) in the next few days. A fire started by lightning is currently burning and the camp had to be evacuated last night, 6/25/07. I'm sure you'll want to call the park office for more information if you have reservations there. Let's pray that firefighters are able to get this blaze under control as soon as possible with the least amount of property damage.

Cooler temperatures help efforts to contain Custer State Park fire
By Katy Eisenbraun
Arson is blamed for a large wildfire in Custer State Park in western South Dakota, not far from the Wyoming border.
The state's Division of Criminal Investigation and Custer County sheriff are investigating.
With containment at 80% crews came off the line yesterday having made excellent progress shoring up and building new containment lines. Acres remain at 2,220.
Warmer temperatures are expected in the near future so crews are working very hard at reaching 100% containment later today. The public can expect smoke though for many days yet as smoldering continues on the interior.
The fire has burned on both sides of Wildlife Loop Road -- mostly east of Highway 87.
Much of the park was initially evacuated after the fire was spotted Monday -- abruptly interrupting the vacation plans of hundreds of visitors. But the Park and its resorts are open for business.
For detailed road closure information please contact the Custer State Park Office at 605-255-4515
