Man! 1.75 for a 60# bale?? You had better stay good friends with that farmer!! Around here, we haven't had any rain (measurable) since the 2nd of June. Really hurtin'! I guess at the sale barn, alfalfa squares are going 4-5.00/bale. We are baling our 2nd cutting, today in fact. It's really good hay,(alfalfa/grass mix,75-85#) just not as many bales as usual. Will probably stick with what I sold it for last year, don't want to rip anybody off. I still can't believe 1.75 hay! I would travel there for that, if the ##@!! fuel prices weren't so high!! Good luck. Iowa hay (NW) is still 3.50 to 4.00 privately, but I do load it and sometimes deliver............within 20 miles, so it is worth it.

For 100lb bales of Alfalfa, we pay $ 12 - $ 13 bale. For Orchard Grass we pay $ 17.95. I can't afford it, but last time I checked Timothy hay was $ 22.00 for a 3 string bale

We pay from $1.75(grass) to $2.50 on quality alf.hay.In Il there is alot more corn this year planted. We live on farm and know where to buy hay and do some of our own to.
We will be moving down to MO. So will be looking for hay till we do our own in spring on new place. We'll take load hay down to get us set for while.
We are lucky never paid over $3.50 bale ever well once at St. Judes Auction (chairty)$4.25..

Anyone know of the hay prices in eastern WA or western MT? Those are a couple of the places we are thinking of moving to here in the next few years so I would like to get the "important" info now.

This past winter we were paying 7-9 a bale for grass hay like coastal or jiggs. Right now prices are down to about 4-6 a bale. Cheaper of course in the field. We have had sooo much rain that they weren't able to cut( most are on 2nd cutting for the year) and bale for awhile so the hay is not the greatest. Most have had to do round bales this cut because grass was so tall.

The farmer I usually get my hay from had me reserved for 2nd crop. He got it cut / dried and ready to bale and a big thunderstorm rolled in and soaked it. So we passed on it. Since I was worried about iffy 3rd crop, I ordered a semi load from Montana. I got 3' x 4' 1000lb bales of Timothy for $110 a ton. Had to pay trucking cost on top of that, so my total per ton was more like $145.
I did pick up 12 Mid sized 3 x 3 bales of Alfalfa/Grass blend locally for $37 a bale, they average 740lbs per bale.

We sell our grass mixed hay for $3 for a 60lb bale. That's about the going price here in Kansas City, Mo. Hate to rip off my fellow trailriders like the gas companies does.
