The water pump in my living quarters is running continuously and I have to turn it off at the main switch.  Normally it would only kick on when the water is in use.  Anyone know what might be wrong?

Sounds like you have a leak somewhere.  It should only run when there is a demand on the system for water.  I would look to make sure you don't have any low point drain valves still open.

Dumb ?, but is the water tank full of water, mine does this when empty. If so, huh I'm not sure why won't shut off, got to be something with pump where it sucks in water to pump it onto faucet.

Good luck.

pedsrn,

I'm not real familiar with these pumps but I do know that they are called demand valve pumps that are supposed to cut off when they reach a given pressure. The only two things that I can think of off the top of my head are

1: the pressure valve is stuck

2: You're system has a leak that causes it to not build the proper pressure

Good luck, Ardly

If no leak then it's probably sucking air (can't build pressure).

Thanks for the responses.  Guess I'll have to take it in to the shop.  Sure was hoping it was something I could fix on my own!

You might be able to fix it yourself. Sounds like it could be air lock. Did you ever run the tank dry? If so air lock is my 1st guess. Simply remove the line going into pump and reinstall it & do same for line going out of pump. Then refill tank and give it a try.

One other thought, you didn't let it freeze did you? If so the diaphram may be damaged.

I didnt' winterize my trailer (never do) but I leave the heater running with the cabinets open so the pump should not have froze.  I also did not let the tank run dry.  Should I still try your suggestion of disconnecting and reconnecting the hoses?

About $50 you can replace the pump yourself. I can't see any trailer dealer charging less than that just to look at it.

Where can I get a pump for $50?  Also, I own a hammer and a screwdriver - that's the extent of my tool box.  Oh yeah...and duct tape!

We bought a new L/Q several years ago and when they drilled the holes in the water tank they forgot to remove the plastic shavings so when the tank ran low it sucked up the shavings and they became lodged in the diaphram of the pump, this caused it to suck air and kick off and on.. you might have somthing in your pump, i removed the pump and took it apart and cleaned it real good and  waa-laa no more problem!! flush your tank real good before you start your pump after you clean it or you will have to do it all again.. phillips screwdriver was all i needed for mine, it took about 45 min. good luck!!!

Here's the pump $46 plus freight. shouldn't need the hammer, the pump has two wires and two hoses.

Thanks everyone for your help. I will attempt to take the pump apart to clean it and if that doesn't fix the problem, I'll buy the pump off of Ebay.

Thanks again!!!
