I currently use a 5 Star pad and really like it and will continue to use the one I have. I have one of my horses that's very sensitive and has had back problems and I wondered if the Impact pad would help him a little bit more. I have gone through the saddle fitting problems and finally ordered a semi custome made saddle to fit. I think the new saddle fits him well and he's received chiropractor treatments. The behaviour problems we had improved greatly with the new saddle and treatments. If the Impact Gel would give him more comfort, it'd be worth investing in.

Congrats on the 5 Star! They are an awesome pad & the ONLY 100% wool pad out there....many say they are, but if you check out the fibers, you'll find something else. Now - for the Impact Gel - what do you use your horse for? You've done the *best* thing by first getting a saddle that fits properly. I have customers, that do a variety of things w/their horses (from trail riding to roping) - that swear by their IG pad. Personally, I think if someone does something where there is alot of hard stops, turns, pulls, etc - then the IG is really a benefit. (keep in mind, there are alot of "wannabe" gel pads out there, & they are NOT the same quality of the true Impact Gel pads.) NO pad is gonna replace a proper fitting saddle, so you've got that part perfected to start with! You can't go wrong using your 5 Star...but if you want alittle more comfort for hard events, then an IG may be just the ticket.

I use my horse for trail riding and I usually ride through a lot of hills. The up and downs is when I started noticing the problem of rushing and the longer I rode, the worse he got.
I decided one day it was the saddle when he kept turning his head nippin at the saddle so I took off his saddle thinking maybe I had something under the pad. When I set the saddle down, he immediately started bitting the pad so I figured he was really mad at what was on his back. That's the only time I've seen him do that.
I know he's extra sensitive and is really smart, both the trainer and chiropractor agree and said he's the type that'll let you know when somethings bothering him. I'm planning on buying another pad anyway and thought about trying a gel pad to see if it gives him that little extra.

It very possibly may give him the extra comfort he wants! Two customers I can think of right off the top of my head use the Impact Gel pads they bought from for everything....they both barrel race pretty regularily & they do ALOT of trail riding. We are out here in the mountains so it's pretty rugged riding. Both have had their IG pads about 2 yrs & still love them...& say they will buy another when they want another pad. Just an FYI, I am running a special on them until the end of the month. My most popular seller is the 3/4" thick contour, hands down.

I just sent in my order for a Saddle Right pad. I bought a new Flexpanel saddle and the folks who sold it to me use Saddle Right pads. They brought one over for me to try and I really liked it. I haven't used a gel pad before.

I also currently also use a 5-star, and have been for about 7 years. Looking at the Impact Gel pad as well. My 5- Star is just a touch to small for my new saddle 30X30, so I though since I should get a different pad why not give the Impact a try. What is the weight of the 32X32 contour compared to the 5-Star? does it work just as well or what are the pros and cons between the two pads. All I do now is Trail ride and nothing hard. Thank you for any input on the 2 pads

Hi Aspen! I just happened to pop in here tonite & I guess my timing was right!
As I said earlier, I do have customers of Impact Gel pads that use them for alot of trail riding. One of the posters on this thread bought one too! The IG gel in the 3/4" x 32 IS alittle heavier than the 5 Star of comparible size. IG is also coming out w/a new pad - their current ones are 70% wool but the new ones are supposed to be more so. But they will only be available in brown. I hate to recommend for someone to switch brands if they've been happy w/another one - that's about the time they do have a problem! The 5 Star does have 32" one also. If I can help you, pls PM me! I am running a spring special right now too & would be more than happy to try to help you decide on a one to one basis!

I also would be interested in this saddle pad but as with the other replies --- I too would like to know a starting price so I know if I can afford one. I hate to order something not knowing what I am paying for it. The link gives no idea as to what the price is.

If you would go to the website - pick out what interests you - & PM me, I can let you know my normal retail & the current sale price. The most popular one I sell is the 3/4" thick contour. The second is the Navajo's w/the wool fleece bottom.

I have a morgan-quarter cross with a medium withers and short back. The western contour sounds like it might fit hiim and I would appreciate a quote on a price for a gel pad. I tried to IM you but it came back and said I had the wrong password for myself. BUT---i got through here though. Thanks

Howdy!
I have a gel pad and found if I ride for a couple of hours the gel warms up and starts to sift around. I use a 5 star 100% wool pad if I plan to be out for more than an hour. I am not trying to knock any ones product, just giving the facts that happened here.

I suspect you do not have a TRUE Impact Gel pad. There are alot of "wannabe's" out there & they do not conform to the same standards as the IG's. The IG's are in a completely solid form - the gel does NOT freeze or melt, nor move around. BUT, I am glad you like your 5 Star! They are the best wool pad out there!
