Most of the alfalfa grown within a 5 mile swath along I-80 is made into pellets, and there is really not a demand in nebraska for cert. alfalfa, BUT you might e-mail Barb Kinnan executive director of the Nebraska Alfalfa Marketing Association (NAMA) at nebalf@cozadtel.net Next month (Feb) 6&7 NAMA is having an expo in Kearney, maybe she can ask around

You will find more certifed hay as you get into states that have lots of public land. The Forest Service and BLM have required it for many years, so famers in states with lots of public lands have more of a market for the certified hay. They get $2.00 to $3.00 a bale more for it than regular hay.
The problem is that most farmers ( at least here in Utah) don't certify first crop. They cut the weeds in the first crop and certify second cutting. This makes it difficult to buy certified hay until second crop comes in.

Thanks for the tip. I did e-mail Ms Kinnan. Hopefully she will have some names.
Painted - thanks for your usual good information. We are headed for Big Sandy in July. Bob is talking to a guy in Farson too.
