Has anyone ever camped in the winter months? We have camping fever and are considering going. Of course, so far Indiana has had a very mild winter, no snow at all and temps in the 50's alot of the time. This is the coldest week we have had so far. But if it ever stops raining long enough, we may venture out and give it a try. We have a self contained trailer plus blankets for the horses, so we may roll the dice and see what happens! My luck, it will stay cold the rest of the winter since I am thinking of going! Might be wishful thinking....but I am ready for Spring!

One word. Brrrrrrrrrr! Expecting it to drop to zero and sub-zero (and a bit more snow too I guess) in the next several days here. You guys are getting OUR weather, dang-it!!!

We've decided to go South and ride, along with a few friends, planning a trip to Florida after the super bowl, and trail ride for a few days. We have the fever too!!

A lot of our better riding weather is in the winter here. It may get cold for a few days but usually warms up enough to be able to ride. I have several rides lined up for the next couple of months.

So long as it isn't pouring down rain, it's ok. Big benefit is no bugs! And the campfire is quite enjoyable. We put water resistent sheets on the horses over New Years, but it finally got too cold so we headed home. Ready to go again tho!

I have camped and hunted in the winter,Take chains to fit truck and trailer.Carry plenty of food and water, for you and horses.I take some tarps to stretch out and make a cover for horses if it is snowing. It also gives them a windbreak.Plus plenty of hay and grain.A small salt block works out good too.Make sure your propane tanks and batteries are full.I have a generator for recharging the batteries. The heater will use them up pretty quick depending on where it is set on the thermostat.Be safe and have fun.

I have camped in Florida. I took a sabbatical for two months in '04. January and February in Brooksville are delightful. There is lots of undesirable riding in Florida. Undesirable to me means flat, scrub, deep sand, boring. The Croom Forest Trails, Withlacoochie State Forest, were the best I found. Rolling grasslands, packed sand, tall live oak trees, well marked trails, ride out to lunch in Nobleton, friendly folks. There is public camping at Tillis Hills, but the riding there just isn't that great, so if you camp there, please go ride Croom Forest. I stayed at a private farm...H & L Ranch and Blueberry Farm. Right off the trails! Just thinking about it makes me want to pack up and go again! Hey, wait, I AM going again...February/March...

Long since lost their info in a computer crash. You can no doubt find them doing a Google search. H&L or H & L Ranch, Brooksville, FL should get it for you. This time I plan to stay with folks I met while riding there. Its close to Tampa. Don't miss Arabian Nights! What a fantastic show! Also, if timing is right, you can go to the Tampa State Fair.

I live in Michigan and camp in all types of weather, including snow sometimes. The only trouble I run into is my horse water freezing (I haul my own water). Just make sure you camp somewhere that leaves their pumps open in the off season. This November we also had trouble with the tack doors freezing up I just carry a small handheld propane heater in case this happens.
