If that unit uses heat strips, then about 5000 BTU is all you going to get on a good day. 5000 BTU + 45 degree air = luke warm. It ain't going to get hot unless it catches fire!

We've found the AC/heat units cool, but don't heat well either.
We use a small heater that plugs in. Be sure to get one that goes on/off as they can really heat up the LQ well. They're quite cheap, running $12 - $35 in Lowe's or Home Depot and don't take up much storage space.

The heat strips on ac's is made as a chill chaser not a heater. They are made to work in warmer temps. to take the chill out of the air at night not heat a unit. I dont remember the exact working range of the heat strips but it is like 45-65 degrees and can only heat the air 7 to15 degrees . So if it is 45 out and you can only heat it up to 60 degrees ,you get luke warm air .

I assist my AC/Heat strip deal with a 1500 watt, $10.00 milk house heater. I run them both till it gets good and warm, turn off the roof unit and run the little space heater the rest of the night. It's really quiet and has a thermostat control and two speed fan. Plus you don't have to listen to that roof mount units screaming fan all night!

Thanks, all. I have a Mr. Heater that I can run temporarily for several minutes at a time without worrying about carbon monoxide. We can't run generators at night, so it sounds like I'm limited to some sort of safe LP once the LQ go in. I don't know what the differences are in the Mr. Heater and factory LP heaters... I suppose the ventilation is different on the factory units so they can run at night without worry of CO poisoning.

Milkhouse heater runs off "lektrisity" 110 volt. Any little space heater will do, one with a circulation fan will do better. We carry a 3000 watt Yamaha quiet genset with us for lights, AC, heat etc. Ain't going to use any kind of propane heater in the trailer with me in there, window cracked or not.

I just installed a WAVE heater in my LQ and it works great.Appears to use very little propane.Starts easily and of course requires no power source.Also have a small electric heater I bought for $19.95 at Home Depot(yuk) that if sat on the kitchen counter or dinete works pretty good.Was told by many that the heat strip option in the roof ac was usless.They were right.My LQ was used so it already had it. Also purchaced a Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarm.

we have had two trailers with heat strip units one in a trailer i did the insulation not very good never got warm the one we have now will run you out we cut it off at night in 30 degree weather we have a lp heater built in the wall only use it when showering it has a vent in bathroom i think this duo heat strip
does so well because of our lq package it is by duster that is my 2 cents

I think that I remember reading something else about this subject and someone said they have found that if you close the vents on the unit it helps, because the air doesn't move over the heat strip quite so fast, gives it a little more time to heat up the air. Does anybody else do this or heard of doing this? I haven't had time to 'speriment with ours and see how well it works. I wonder if some companies put more than one heat strip in a unit or if that is not possible. Kinda double the b.t.u.'s, I d'know just thinkin' out loud. Talk to y'all later...

you may have someting there? i do close the vent going to the back and leave the one open going to the bed but i did this with my old trailer and no help we used an electric blanket and space heater but now we turn on the heat strip
on an hour or more and during the night i turn it off and never turn it back on i will look and see if it has tw strips

Mine is Doutherm anyway it is not a coleman. But it will really keep you warm. It is on a central unit I have only used my furnace twice just to see if it worked. When we first turn it on I plug in a small ceramic heater to help speed things up and then just use the electric heat. Works well mine is in a Hart with Outlaw conv. The ones I had in the past didn't work this well.

My Duotherm in my LQ works great! Keeps the trailer warm up in the gooseneck bed, but the kids sleeping on the dinette say it doesn't get that warm down there. I've only used the LP Furnace 1 time just to try it out, and it REALLY warmed things up. So far I'm happy with the heat strip.
