I have a friend who uses a tripod like thing. It attaches to her horn so that when she is on the horse she can just pull it up. She seems to like it, she carries it everytime I have been riding with her, but I have never actually seen her use it. I just use a fallen tree or a stump. We have a lot of fallen trees around our parts due to Hurricane Ivan.

Do you know where she got it? I'm vertically challanged and even though 14 hands is my preferred height limit, I some how ended up with horses that are 15+h. There are NO stumps here in the desert so I don't dare get off away from home.

She bought hers here locally at a Tack Shop. Pine Forest Saddlery, I can give you there Phone # and I am sure they would be happy to mail you one. I went up there to get one and they were out, but said that they had ordered more. I have a metal rod in my leg and can't flex like I use to.
I try not to get off on the trail but sometimes I don't have a choice.

Terri, where in NM are you? I live in ABQ and have the same issue you do. I try hard to find a rock, branch, etc to use since my horse has some issues with me mounting from the ground. Otherwise, I have a stool to use with my trailer/barn.

I think this is what you are wanting. $24.95 I believe with a carrying case. Pretty neat. I saw one on a trail ride earlier this year.

Trailblazer, before you spend the money with one try making something out of a strap or something to check it first. It's cheaper and and will tell you if it will work correctly. I did that and found that even with it being an inch down I couldn't finish getting my opposite leg over the saddle.

OOPS, I read that wrong, if you want the stirrup deal. I agree that you ought to rig something up first. I ride with my stirrups kind of long to begin with, if I lower the stirrup any I wouldn't be able to get my leg over the saddle either. Never could figure out how that would work very good.

Thanks longearsrule,
Someone told me that they were made here locally but I never could find a website for them. Now I don't have to wait for the Tack Store to re-stock them.

I did at one time try the ezup stirrup extender and I did have a problem getting my opposite leg over the saddle. I thought maybe they had improved on this method.

Totalloss,
Here is a website for a club in our area. They have different links for places to trailride in our area.I like Coldwater the best. http://www.ffaha.org/places_to_trailride.htm
Which condo do you have a unit in? My husband builds condos in that area, he did Indigo and a few others but is now with a different Company in Gulf Shores.
