My new rig is a 99 Ford F150 XLT Supercab 4x4 Off-road with a tow pkg automatic. It has a Triton 5.4L V-8 engine and a 3.73 limited slip rear end. This truck has a 4 pin trailer connection because all it ever towed was a tiny utility trailer. How do I tell if it has an actual factory installed tow pkg or something after market added on? I'm getting a brake controller installed. Any advice on brands or styles? I'll get a new connection installed too. I tow a Logan two horse straightload. My old Ford F150 was a 1986 302 V-8 manual that I bought new in 86 and it served me well. I don't haul that often and normally with just one horse for short distances.

I had (still have, hunting and fishing rig now) a '90 F150, 302 with tow pkg and it only had the 4 pin as well. I added the larger 7 pin RV electrical connector, but had all the mechanics ready for towing. I now have a '02 F250 with the 5.4 Triton. It has alot more power, you will like it.

now that's what I call helpful! Thanks guys! I'm hoping my truck has all the extras that come with a tow pkg and all I'll have to ad is brake controller and the plug. I'll go look to see if I can find that code on it. I jumped at this truck a little too fast. Actually I was hypnotised by its looks, drawn to it like a bug to the zapper. "so shiny... ooh..."
