Arg! Will someone please tell me why the forum software won't recognize a line return? It's driving me crazy. I'd like to make more than one paragraph once in a while.

OK. Now this is really strange. When I preview the message it looks fine, but when it gets posted - poof - no more paragraphs.

At a guess...

This isn't a paragraph break, just two line feeds.

I use Netscape, but the default editor, no spell checker.
One line feed.

Maybe unix vs windoze delimiter settings ?

On the windoze side, try looking around under;

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Advanced Tab
Not sure which versions of windoze has what options, but look for any options that allow things like CR, LF, or Enter keys to be chosen to specify new line, even combinations of these.

Similarly in Firefox. Figure out which editor it calls up, find that editor's settings for "New Line", etc.

Plan B;
Try using Netscape.

Plan C;
MS Internet Exploder - if you HAVE TO (-:

EDIT: Well, I think I’ve discovered a compatibility issue between this pretty old forum software and the Firefox browser. I don’t suppose there are any plans underway to upgrade the forum?

You know, I also see that I don't get a font toolbar in Firefox like I have now in MS Explorer.

I've found that when I've made posts - sometimes the return/line space works as a paragraph (two hard returns here)

and sometimes it does not.

Here is a test of my Firefox.Does it do paragraphs with a line return? I dunno. Just figured I would test too- I normally use IE or Netscape depending on which machine I'm on (Windoze or Unix). EDIT> seemed to work fine on default Firefox settings here- top break is two line returns, second is a single.Sedond Edit>> Now this is crazy, when I posted the edit, it sucked up all my line breaks, even though it was fine as originally posted.

I'm running the latest version of Firefox (1.5.0.6) on a Windows XP Pro machine. When you use Firefox, do you have a font toolbar above the editing window? I don't.

MessyWord and MSExploder are probably able to understand each other (somehow).
I wouldn't expect copy/paste to work across messyword and anything that is non MS, other than by happenstance, i.e. it MIGHT have worked in some previous versions, but only by chance.
In any case I think the underlying cause is that what is being used for "New Line" is different - CR/LF in one place, Enter in another, CR in another, etc. Just get them spec'd compatibly and it will probably work, there SHOULD BE enough control settings for this. I doubt that the forum's software itself is doing any stripping.

Let's try this. I'm editing this message in MS Frontpage since it says that HTML is on.

<Enter><Enter> I guess we'll see if this works.

I try to avoid using html, there are/were some security issues.
Almost everything gets simpler in plain text.

This could get quite awkward, but it seems to work.

What I learned after a little fact finding was that the JavaScript wysiwyg editor embedded in the page was originally made in 2002 and only specifically mentions IE and Opera in its code. All others are SOL as far as compatibility. If you happen to use something else and it works, you get lucky.

Me, I guess I'll try this for a while.

Yes, but then I can't insert line breaks. If MBBS Code understood [P][/P] then it wouldn't be any big deal and I'd just go with that and be done with it. Darn Microsoft ubiquity, what a PIA.
