I have been reading the threads on this website and it seems that many of the Sales Reps for the horse trailer dealers are on-line and have been very helpful in addressing issues.

I have a 1997 4-Star trailer and I have never had to have any dealer service done on it so I don't know how the service department is but I haven't been able to find any sales reps who seem interested in helping me. I am looking for a used 4-Star or C&C. Has anyone else encountered this problem with 4-Star or C & C?

I guess I don't understand what problem you are encountering, a sales rep to help you find a trailer or a sales rep to help with service or both.

Sorry about the confusion. I guess that I am concerned about both. If I can't get anyone to help with sales; I am also concerned about how the service department might be if I ever needed them. The good news is that I have never needed any service on my trailer.

I agree with you, if someone won't help you at the time of sale, the service is, almost always, not very good. IMO, when you are purchasing a trailer, you are purchasing the dealership. The buying and owning experience, be it good or bad, will most likely be based on how you are treated at the dealership after the sale. So if you are uncomfortable at puchase time, I would find another dealership that you feel will take care of you.

But it seems that many dealerships are like RV & car dealers- very separate. I've known some that had great sales departments, but no service. And there are some that have great service, but no sales folks worth talking to. Depends on management of each area maybe? So don't necessarily base your opinion on one visit.

But then again, it can be hard to help with a used 4 Star or C&C. Dealers can only sell used what they trade for. So if they don't have it, there's not much they can do to help you.

That may be the issue. It is hard for me to find used trailers. Maybe the dealers don't have to advertize the trailers that they take in on trade because they have people available to buy them.

That may be true, My trade in trailer sold two days after trade in.

Just about all you should ever need "serviced" can be done at any trailer place that knows anything about Dexter axles. 4-Star is VERY GOOD about sending out parts directly to the customer, you don't need to go through an authorised 4-Star dealership for that. Most other things are generic anyway, coupler, lights, switches, etc.
As you seem to have already noticed (9 year old trailer), if you get the right trailer you don't have much need for a service department (-:
