We currently own a slant load 2 horse BP.  Our horse loads and fits nicely into this trailer.  He is 15.3 hands tall and weights about 1,000#.

We are looking to buy a horse that is about 16.2 hands high, weights 1,200# - will he fit in our trailer?  Does anyone have any experience trailering this size horse in a standard slant load?  When is advisable to jump up to a warmblood size trailer?

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated!!  Great forum!

I think different brands of trailers vary with their height measurements and width as well. I previously owned a 7' tall Exiss GN trailer that was fine for my 15.3h and 16h horses. the length was fine too. My new trailer is also a 7' tall and wide trailer. But no way is it the same height as my last trailer! This new one is much shorter in height and the stalls are not as long. So maybe some dealers are listing outside '' in height as opposed to inside '' in height???

I now know that I would never  buy anything less than 7'6'' in height again. For your horses height, I would definitely go at least 7'6'' tall.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't put anything over 15.2 in a trailer less than 7' high.

I have a 16.2 WB, and our trailer is 7'6". It suits me just fine. The shorter ones look so cramped compared to ours.

I haul a 16 hand 1200-1300lb quarter horse.  Thoroughbred type confirmation except he is stockier.  I have a 8 wide, 7'6" high 3 horse slant load.  Two stalls are 37 1/2 inch wide stalls and one is a 39 1/2 inch stall.  He fits well in both.  Height he has room to spare and he has room behind his rear before the wall starts.
