I am wanting to put a roll out awning on my horse trailer. I have a quote on a A&E and Carefree. The Carefree is considerably less expensive. Does anyone have any suggestions on which is better or are they about the same in quality and function?

I am pretty sure I have both. One on our C&C horse trailer. The other on our Jayco camper. I will try to see which one is on what trailer. I am pretty sure that the C&C trailer has the Carefree and I prefer it compared to the A&E. The locking mechanism on the handles to raise and lower is more user friendly. I will double check and post later. The camper is away on some warranty issues. If I am right, I am surprised the Carefree is cheaper. It seems to be a much heavier made awning.

Check to see if both quotes include the arms, They should be priced within $10-$20 of each other. The Carefree is the better awning due to the locking Mech. I bet the arms are not in the quote you have. They are about $250.

Finally had time to check them out. I would go with the Carefree. It is on our horse trailer and really is easier to operate. I would pay the extra $$ to get one compared to the A&E. I use both most weekends and there is no comparison. We will have the horse trailer and camper parked together and you can tell the Carefree is a heavier made awning when they are both pulled out side by side.

I'd suggest you be sure your comparing Apples and Apples, not Apples and Oranges. Both companies make a variety of different styles and models, some heavier duty than others.

Both can be operated by one person. The handles on the Carefree are easier to operate. I agree that there are different models and designs. You need to make sure that you spec out each model.

hello i had the carefree on my last horse trailer and i just bought a new trailer a yr ago and it has a a&e. the carefree seemed to be a little heavier.. it would depend on the price as to which one i would go with if not much difference i would go with the carefree if is was over a hundred bucks i would go with the a&e because i have had not trouble with it either. as to comparing some of the awnings are a heavy vinyl type and some are material.. my old carefree was the vinyl and the new a&e is more of material i like both they both work fine... good luck
