I am posting this here to get the word out to as many people as quickly as possible. I believe this to be from reliable sources and hope that(until completely ruled out) it might save someone else this heartache. If anyone has any information or recent experience with this brand please contact this lady. I left her info on the e-mail for contact purposes. Thanks, Bits
P.S. Sorry this is so big I didn't know how to adjust it.

Please forward this to all your horsie friends. It was sent to the members of Indiana Trail Riders (ITRA). This is definitely ligit. One of the ladies in ITRA has bought this batch (and hasn't used it yet, thank God). She called Country Supply and they are issuing a full credit and told her to throw it away.
I have never heard of this wormer, because I always use the same 2 wormers and never pay much attention to what else is out there, but I've been told it is a generic brand that is cheap--about $3 a tube. So, there's a good chance that a lot of people have bought it. Hopefully everyone will hear about this before they worm their horses with it.

Hey everyone-I got that same email this week purportedly from an owner of an Appaloosa ranch in Colorado. Think you can probably chalk it up to urban legend. If in doubt "urbanlegends.com" is always a good place to check these out. Sorry to be a skeptic but seems like there is a contingent of folks out there who want to stir up a stink regardless of who or what company it hurts. Thanks for listening to my soapbox! Terri

Since this can kill a horse, I won't take any chances with this wormer. If in doubt, call your vet. Or even Country Supply or Jeffers. But I won't blow it off as an "urban legend".

I don't know TerriS might be right. I am going to send an e-mail to the ITRA (which I should have done in the first place). It's not like me to not check something out. I hate gossip especially mean gossip.

This reminds me of the big Quest scare that came out several years ago when Quest was introduced to the market. Seems alot of people were saying their horses were dying from using it. I think some were true but because is a stronger dewormer, a heavily bot, strongyles infested horse could have averse reactions to it.
Personally I would avoid these "generic" dewormers and stick to the ones your veterinarian recommends.
Big pet peeve with this thread is saying "wormer" instead of "dewormer".

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the warning. I've just had so many of these lately that turned out to be someone wanting to blacken someone's name or get everyone worried about a threat that didn't really exist. I just hate it when people prey on others emotions. Just thought it was funny that the same info came to me from under someone elses's signature, ranch and email address. Will be watcing with interest.

I just ordered wormer from Country Supply and they have a warning on their website about bimectin and the generic ivermectin; so I paid attention to their warning and ordered a different wormer. Since its on their website, I believe it enough not to take a chance.

Is the warning only for that lot number? I have a dozen of them setting on my shelf with an earlier lot number that expires in March 07. Now I don't know wether to use them or not.

I am sitting here laughing at MIFARMBABE over the pet peeve "wormer". It is amazing what little things offend folks..lol..
I just take it with a grain of salt. I know what they meant, so no need to make an issue out of it.
I agree with investigating something if it comes through your email inbox. I don't like rushing to judgement on something. I agree with talking to your vet about it, but not all vets are up to date on everything, and like to stick with the old tried & true, which may or may not be good today as it was yesterday.
There is a thing called built up resistance. So I like to rotate my wormers according to the seasons. After a heavy frost here in Michigan I switch to strongid, in the spring, right before the big melt, I go to the ivermectins. I have race horses and show horses, and have never had any problems. I have never tried the Bimeda products. Everything in this world will kill you if you listen to someone's rumor.

Offended? Me? Not at all, just making a little clarification.
I am offended that you were laughing at me and not along with me. But glad you had a good laugh anyway. Laughing is a good thing, I'm laughing right now at the fact that I am responding to this thread.

Hi Mifarmbabe....its lazy language, at least on my part, which is funny because usually I am a stickler for correct word usage. And I want to deworm my horses, not give them worms!

Got this from one of my friends:
Hey Chris:
Called my mom and she has the exact lot or wormer that this email talks about - she is calling country supply to advise them that she has this lot - by the way she wormed kayla with this lot last month and she was fine....Hmmmmm.
Not sure if the lady who had the bad experience would want this info.

"This past week the Company has received feedback from veterinarians, their clients, and individual horse owners on the positive and safe results obtained from the administration of Bimectin Equine Wormer Paste from various lot numbers, including Lot No. 5J019."
Jeffers.com has an update/notice posted as well as Bimeda.com, the manufacturer. My guess is that the competition got disgruntled and started this phony "story." I just checked my one remaining tube of Bimection purchased months ago. It is also of this suspected Lot No. 5J019 EXP 07 SEPT. I wormed 12 horses with it 2 months ago and they are all just fine.
