Hi Guys, Its been a long time since I've been on Forum, but I now need some advice to help me with an important decision. I've got a Chev HD 2500 Duramax diesel W/Allison transmission and I'm Hauling a 3H Bison with a 10'SW approximatly 4000 mi.a year. My truck is soon to be out of warranty @36000 miles but is only 2 yrs. old. The engine is covered for 100000 miles. My dilema is whether to spend $1850 for an extended GM warranty.I know the Allison transmission is an expensive one to replace.I would appreciate hearing your experiences and comments out there concerning this issue. Thanks in advance for your valued input. TLR

If it has not given you problems as of yet, I wouldn't worry about it. I would just make sure you stay on a regular service schedule with it. That tranny should last a good long while.

my Duramax is at 93k miles and I'm sweating it too! I had to replace a "block" of fuel injectors at 65k which would have cost $1300.00 if not under warranty. I haven't purchased an extended warranty, and the way my luck goes . . . it'll probably crap out at 101k. I also pull a 3 horse Bison w/ 12ft lq.

Your tranny is the strongest part of the truck. I would be worried about other things way before I would be worried about the Allison.
I've got 78K on my '04 duramax and it is going strong. I've pulled a 25' travel trailer more miles than I can count 10K+ and my truck still drives like new. Except I'm getting better more MPG's than when it was new.
You will be fine. Your truck will hit 500K no problem. Just keep changing your fluids and such.

I'm probably a bit TOO maintenance oriented, although at some other level I don't believe in discarding oil needlessly.
I put the deep(er) pan on my trans when the truck was new, so the first change was at less than 100 miles. I change the trans fluid at each alternate engine oil change, which is typically at about 80% to 85% of when the oil life readout says to change it, according to weather, my willingness to squirm around on the driveway, upcoming trips, etc. I'm running synthetic in it now, which is only economic if bought in 5 gallon pails. I'm also using the same Castrol/Allison synthetic in the transfer case. BTW, if you change to the deeper pan you need a different suction filter.
All of this is still FAR cheaper than buying an extended warranty contract and is more "ensurance" that it will last a long time vs "insurance" against the cost of a failure.

I'm SKEERED!!!
I also had my injectors replaced at around 75000, now at 110K and no other problems. Also, Chevy extended the warranty to 200K for the injectors. Another thing that was done was change the fuel filter to the newer smaller micron filter. There was a recall for this about 6-8 months ago. Again, I wouldn't worry about the tranny as long as you take care of it.
