I am looking at a galvinized steel four horse slant with drop downs on both side and mangers. Four foot short wall with comfort package. This trailer has everything I need however it is a steel trailer and I don' t know what kind of quailty a trails west is. This trailer is a 2003 If I buy this trailer I will haul hard and long with four horses all the time will this trailer hold up? or will I be kicking my self for not buying alumiunm. Can any one tell me how well Trails West holds up and what I can expect. p.s. I had a four star I was buying but they sold it out from underneath me!! Anna

I bought a TW 3H GN with a DR. It was my first "big purchase" it was a good trailer, no doubt. Well bulit ( far as I can tell) It was the trailer I could afford at the time that suited my needs. However, it was the rusting I couldn't stand. Not that it rusted through and was unusable. Despite a bit of rust here and there, which is to be expected of anything made of steel, it held up to travel and use. But when I needed more trailer, I bought an Exiss. I simply wanted something that can hold up to winter weather and hold a resale value as well. Some will disagree with my assessment. But thats what I wanted. You have nothing to fear with a TW except you have to understand it will rust. The paint will chip ( mine did pretty early on) But its a affordable trailer.

I've got a few buddies that have TW trailers and they have two things to say about them. First, it is a great trailer and they love it. Second, it is a heavy trailer but well built. I'm not sure you will have the problem with rust in TX. I live in AZ and my buddies just love theirs.

I bought a 2006 TW 4 horse Rocky Mountain with Mangers and side angled mid tack (door on each side of trailer). I have absolutly so complaints about the trailer.. Great pulling trailer..the different in it being steer and an aluminum same size and options...the weight is pretty much the same within 2 or 300 hundred pounds. I persoanlly believe they will hold up forever. The paint is all powered coated..baked on...tough and scratch resistant. They are cheaper than aluminum trailers...but i think they will last longer. I love mine.... yes I would love to have a Bloomer, but for the money I love my Trails West.

I can only comment on the Trails West I see in Texas and we don't see the rust issues at all. They are a very user friendly, well made trailer. As far as towing, they seem to tow as well as any other trailer out there. They also have a very good resale value. If it is the trailer you like, buy and don't be afraid. I know you will enjoy using it!

Thanks to everyone I really feel more confident in buying steel for my first trailer. I do love the thought of aluminunm however what is a person with a budget to do.

If I were to buy an all steel trailer, Trails West would be the only trailer I would look at. I have a couple friends that own them. These trailers are 3-8 years old and always stored outside. In Oregon, that is alot of rain these trailers see. These trailers are in great conditions for the weather they see. Stucture wise, they are also very good. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it.

Hi There I'm on my second TrailsWest. The first one was a 2001 3 horse Santa Fe. We really liked it so much we Went out and bought a 2004 3horse sirrea, We put a weekenders package in it. We live in Wi. but we do not pull it after the 1st of Nov-May 1st. before I put it away, I clean it up and out really good, than I put a really good coat of Airplane wax on. This trailer pulls great No problems and if or when I do decide to change trailers it will be another TrailsWest Again. Were we live there are no trails west so when I pull in to a park a Lot of people have told me what a sharp looking trailer it is.

All I can say is be careful of them I know some people who have a repair facility and there were some issues with the front end caps peeling and looking like heck because of the paint preparation and they fought with the warranty people to get paid for the job ( on more than one occasion) make sure you have a tranny cooler in your truck. If you shop around for aluminum they are getting more competive and remember on resale they hold there value over steel.

There was a short period of time that Trails West had a problem with the prep on the nose before they painted. Once the problem surfaced they immediately found the source of the problem, corrected it and changed their process. As far as warranty, in 10 years I have never had a problem collecting on warranty from Trails West. I even repaired some with the paint issue on the nose. In fact there is very little warranty work to be done on these trailers. As far as resale, their value stays right in line with any aluminum trailer in the market place today. Now, I do agree that some of the middle to lower end steel trailers do see a lower resale value but I have not experienced this with Trails West.
