I have a 2002 Silverstar horse trailer (Starlite Supreme, no LQ currently) that had a leak around the A/C seal (thanks to shoddy installation by the dealer??)  It would probably cost me a couple grand to replace the carpet, the insulation in the ceiling, and the ceiling material.

SO I'm thinking about having LQ added.  Is anyone familiar with doing this for trailers, as far as axle ratings and trailer weight ratings go?  I believe the trailer is currently rated for 9999 pounds.  I thought I had the heavier axles (2034A model, I thought, but think it may be a 2033) on it, but may not.  I believe Silver Star can brace the floor appropriately for LQ and upgrade the VIN plate for heavier weight rating.  Just wondering what others have found in this regard.

Also... how hard would it be to convert the external lights to LEDs?  Do exact-fit LED replacements for the current light holders exist?

The floor doesn't need to be braced unless you're mounting tanks underneath.  Silver Star has a flat undercarriage - I'd suggest inside tanks.

You can replace all the water damaged stuff yourself, assuming you have the time.  ALL of it can be found at Home Depot.  Or, you can have a conversion company just strip it and start from scratch.

As far as the LED lights - don't know...

My 2004 Silver Star Starlight Supreme has led lights.  Perhaps the manufacturer can supply the replacements for you. 

Dawnya's dyi lq looks fantastic.  I'm modeling my current dyi on her specs.

Very nice interior!  That gives me hope that I can put LQ in my 7' short wall trailer.

I really love Silver Stars... and if I don't add LQ now, I will take your advice to go to Home Depot and do the water damage repair job myself after finding out exactly what failed and why.  Might be the best way to go for now.

I'm not sure what would cause an A/C seal to fail other than water working its way in, then freezing.  That shouldn't happen.  Maybe my dealer sold me a junky A/C unit.

Any suggestions on what brand/model of A/C to go with?  Something of very good quality that will work with the trailer and won't allow this to happen again?

My guess would be $6,000 minimum.  You'll have to check with a company that does this stuff and tell them how basic you want to get.
