I want to install a second pair of stop, tail, turn lights to my trailer. The existing lights are the common 6 inch oval grommet mount type. I do not want to cut 2 more oval holes in the thick steel,so I want to surface mount this type of light. I spent 1 hour searching the web for some type of enclosure for this  6 inch oval light but could not find anything. Can anyone help me find a way to surface mount this light?

Go to almost any truck supply place, you can buy exactly that light packaged in a metal box that you can mount just about anywhere/anyway you want.
They're probably available in primer coated steel, painted black, mill finish aluminum, diamond plate aluminum, perhaps even stainless, etc.
You might have problems with your flasher, one way to avoid that is to buy LED lights as the add-ons, they draw so little current are bright and just about never burn out.
I bought LEDs at Superbrightleds.com they might have the boxes.
If not try a web search for LEDs or automotive LEDs.

DO remember to buy the grommets (-:

I purchased a pair of lights that fender mount on a big rig at a yard sale a few years ago. I mounted them on the edge of the roof at the rear of my older Wrangler horse trailer for additional lights and they work great. The lights were pedestal mount and contoured pretty close to the radius of the roof. Got lucky on that one and like I said, they work great. Happy trails.

We added a lot of extra lights to upgrade the trailer we currently pull, including a second higher-up set of the 2x6 ovals in rubber mounts. Cutting the oval hole was not at all tough, just blew it in with the torch and buffed it with grinder (paint was being redone in any case). I do not like anything sticking out to hang up on tack or horsehide, especially at eye level. The nearly flush rubber grommet mounts are best in my book.

I agree with Reg about the LEDs.You could replace the incandescent lamps that you have now with LEDs and decide that you don't need a second set of lights.I replaced the 2" X 6" lamps on my trailer with LEDs and the difference was night & day.The LEDs will get the attention of drivers behind you even in full daylight and they also draw less current from your electrical system.
