My mare is getting over an abscess in her toe. I have been cotton-wrapping it with ichthammol and have 3 more days of this. Next I have to get my farrier to put her shoe back with a special medicinal pad.

My question is, does anyone know the formal name of this pad? I think it's an "antiseptic" pad or "medicinal" pad, or something similar.

Thanks in advance,
KS

I have never seen an old abscess being covered.  You want them to dry out and toughen up.  I have packed the sole with cotton and taped over it to hold medicine up to the site but not anything permenant.  Last thing you want is more dirt getting in an old infection...seems like you're asking for trouble.
