Has anyone ever installed a ramp on their Sundowner? I really wished I had bought one when I got my trailer, but hind sight is 20-20.......... It looks like it would just replace the rubber bumper and install a latch. Anyone have any idea as to the cost? No dealer close by, I bought it a the Dixie Nationals this year fom Bob Lewis, excellant dealer in LA. Thanks for any and all help.

Depends on the year of your trailer--square or round door jambs. The rubber bumper is removed and holes are drilled through the ramp "L" channel and self-tapping bolts are used to go into existing holes from bumper. Additional vertical holes are drilled through the "underside" of the "L" channel and self-tappers are used here also. Then the tongue-holder is mounted on the right door. This keeps the ramp from rubbing on the cam-locks and turning them black from the rubber matting. In some instances, the protective cover at the bottom of the cam-lock must be removed--where the doors join when closed. All in all, it's about a 2 1/2 to 3 hr. job when you know what you are doing. We charge $950. for an installed ramp. Is your trailer 6'9" or 8' wide ??? Also--freight on one of these is terrible---so we always try to keep extras in stock--which we have delivered on ordered trailers. One way to save lots of added cost !!! Hope this helps--but I can't speak for other dealers and what they charge !! We do install our ramps on lots of other brand name trailers. Zane.

wddawson--if you check with Sundowner corporate at 800-765-3879, they can give you the number of your closest dealer. Perhaps they can have a ramp shipped to their location on an ordered trailer for you--saves $$$$. Good luck, Zane.

I bought a used ramp that had been damaged (spring/hinge assembly) for $300 and then took it to a local welder and had a hinge fabricated (without a spring). Total cost $550. Keep your eyes open and be creative. I had the local sundowner dealer price one out for about $1000. including labor. I found the used ramp in their "salvage" parts around back. "luck".
