We just purchased a Carrier Air V A/C unit. I was wondering how hard it is to install and what is required to do it. Is it something an average handy man can do or should we take it to a dealership?

I installed a Carrier a/c unit myself. If you already have the 14x14 inch opening framed for the weight of the ac ... you're good to jump in.
If you have an aluminum trailer roof and don't have the opening, do take it to the dealer to have the opening & frame done.... then install the a/c unit yourself.
I've looked at some of the dealer ac installations and been disappointed by their workmanship. Especially the electrical work.

Sweet unit. We have one and it freezes us out! You can hang meat in the LQ.
BTW, do you have a manual? I don't (bought the trailer used and it was missing) I called Carrier and they said the Air V draws 1450 watts on high cool. Is that correct?

Right now I am just wanting to get an A/C in the trailer. It is not insulated yet. We have plans to insulate and panel later on but for now how would you wire it and with what?

Yesterday, I just insulated my trailer..after 2 years of a/c.
A couple of questions... do you plan to install a LQ later? What kind of hook up's are at the places you go to? 30 amp rv plugs, regular 120 plugs, 220 volt hook-ups ??
Are you going to have an on board generator or a portable unit?

Yes it is only a 4ft s/w but we plan on putting in something simple. We have 110v and 30amp rv plugs. What do you mean by portable unit?
Portable vs a permanently installed generator...
Do you actually have 30 amp 110 volt supply at the campgrounds ?
Most of the camp grounds I've been to, have two 110V 20 amp plug-ins. Each fed from a different circuit. I installed two circuits. One for the a/c and one for the rest of the loads.

Hey since you're on the subject. Where is the best place to buy/order an A/C unit? We would like to eventually build a complete LQ someday but, for now heat and air will do........... Also what kind of price range should we expect to pay.

I bought mine (Carrier air V cool only) over the internet. Paid about $500 delivered 2 years ago. Watch out for some vendors that low ball... don't include the interior ceiling unit or shipping.
DIY saved me about $500 over having a trailer dealer install it. DIY isn't for everybody. I have more tools than money and have to justify their purchase. LOL!
