Hi there, any other Canadians on board?I am looking at bringing a US trailer into Canada. Has anyone heard of any problems with doing this?I have been told that all I need is a bill of sale and proof of ownership from the dealer......

it was us that just recently imported a 2005 featherlite trailer from Washington to BC.
no problems. if you are buyign from a dealer they usually know all the paperwork you have to have. but mainly you have to have the trailers registration, the bill of sale and there is one other form that I believe the dealer will have. when you get to the border you just show all the paperwork. pay the extra GST and off you go.
oh make sure you have a shipping permit (dealer will sell to you for $20 usually) and then make sure you have some form of transit permit from ICBC or your local insurance agency in Canada, to get it from the border to your home.
it took us maybe 15 minutes to get thru the border, no worries at all. once its in Canada you just have to take it to any canadian tire for inspection, they stamp the other form that you get from the border crossing and then you can get it licenced and registered in canada (when you have to pay the exta provincial taxes if you have to).

Thank you very much for this info....
I am hoping to bring a trailer from New York State into Ontario this weekend....
I have spoken with custons and a broker, and neither mentioned the insurance cert. or the shipping permit!
They said that all I needed was a cert. of ownership and a bill of sale......
So, I appreciate your advice very much.....
I will let you know how it goes.

I worked with a knowledgable dealer in New York State.....He supplied me with the correct documentation and I brought a new trailer into Canada without problem! Took about 10 mins to come through customs!
