My hubby offered to install my new Trailer Eyes camera, and wired it into my Circle J Runabout. He had to splice the wires near the rear dome light because the length of wire provided wasn't long enough to reach the trailer 12 volt battery. We didn't have a schematic of the trailer wiring (didn't have one provided from seller) but we thought it would be fairly straight forward. After he spliced the camera in, the dome light would not work nor the camera power. So reversed everything to what it was before, and regained trailer brake lights and turn signals, but no dome light. But there must have been a short to the dome. We checked all the truck fuses, and nothing in the fuse box is blown (Ford Sport trak). But NOW the Tekonsha brake controller has no power nor is there the red led light at the 7 way plug. This makes no sense. He did open up the 12 volt battery cover but did not do anything to it. Any ideas out there? Is there a reset to the Tekonsha? TIA.

When he was doing his wiring modification...did he remove both batteries, the 12 volt as well as the breakaway unit, from the circuit before he started cutting?

With a multi meter check the fuses in the truck's fuse box. They don't have to be removed to check. Apply the probes to the two pins on the tops. An indicated 12v voltage indicates a good fuse. No voltage will indicate a blown fuse. It only take a minute or so to check them all.

Put the multimeter's negative probe onto a grounding area, and touch the other in turn, to the two terminals on the top of the ATM blade fuses. If the fuse is good, it will show a positive voltage reading on both. If the fuse is blown, it will not. The fuses do not have to be removed from the terminal strips to test their continuity.

Gard, I misunderstood your answer. I thought you meant check accross the two ends of the fuse with it inplace. With this method voltage wound indicate a blown fuse and no voltage would indicate a good fuse

There are usually several ways to achieve the same results. With your knowledge of electricity, you would probably beat me to the correct answer. I hope you have a great summer.

If he was trying to power the device with the trailer battery, there should be a fuse on the trailer...is this a lq trailer? Other problems might just be coincidental.
