I'm going to upgrade my controller as I think mines junk. What's your favorite controller and why? There are so many out there and I don't see much difference between them

The Tekonsha Prodigy P2(make sure it is not P1 which has a red display) , is the best, i like the dials alot more than the buttons on the P3, I have never used the primus but it looks like an mid point between the voyager and the prodigy. not sure how many axles the priums can handle but it does not look like it does electric over hydraulic brakes so it is a no go for me. The voyager is an ok controller it just lacks alot of features one of the biggest is plug and play wiring harnesses, and for $20 i would rather have the prodigy P2

Other than the OEM from Ford, GM, etc that sense the hydraulic pressure. The choice is either a timed controller or an inertia controller. Stay away from the timed controllers. No matter how hard you brake, the trailer brakes are applied the same. Prodigy P3 fit my dash better than the rest so that's what I installed. It replaced a Drawtite.

The reason we like the Primus is that it does not throw codes at you like the P3 and P2, which unsettles most basic users. (Women like me for example.) It will handle up to 3 axles, but not the electric/hydraulic system. Cost differences are important too. We haven't installed a Voyager in a long time even though we have them in stock. I don't know why.

Voyager is too touchy to adjust on the Level portion of the controller. Not to mention it is too easy to get the Gain & Level mixed up, and really throw it out of whack. I'm surprised anyone buys them anymore.

just curious what codes the p2/p3 thow the only one i can think of is PL Powerloss if you have it hooked to an igintion wire when you start up the truck, nc not connected when the t railer is not connecting to the controller, and to steep which i have never had com one when towing a trailer. If the Primus does not show you the first 2 codes i would be very concerned.

I'd recommend a proportional controller, as they will sense how quickly the tow vehicle is braking and will deliver the proper amount of voltage to the trailer brakes so the trailer and tow vehicle brake at the same rate.
The Tekonsha Voyager has been around for a loooong time. For those used to its quirks, it works just fine. At that price point, the Tekonsha Primus which provides a digital display (instead of a single LED) and is self-leveling would be a better choice.
The P2 and P3 are both compatible with electric over hydraulic braking systems but the P3 provides controls and a display that are more user-friendly. Rather than displaying any error codes as a two digit alpha-numeric like the P2, the P3 specifically lists the problem. Both the P2 and P3 can be mounted in a 360 degree rotation as long as they're level in the side to side axis and are parallel to the direction of travel. The P3 allows you to change the display color and language (French, English or Spanish).
In a nutshell, the right controller for you will depend on how knowledgeable you are with their operation and which braking system your trailer uses. I've used both the P2 and P3, and can personally vouch for either.
